Hey all, need some help. My newborn aviator ensign (graduated Jan 7) is in Pensacola with his dad searching for a place to live. Does anyone know if he gets orders to go to Whiting after API and he has a lease, can he break the lease without losing deposits etc? He is getting conflicting info that there is a 50 mile minimum for the orders and Whiting is only 40 miles away. But, someone else said the minimum milage does not apply to Whiting. Can anyone verify this?

Denise....A tiger cruise is when the ship is about a week away from its home port.  Family members are able to meet the ship and join the crew for the return to the ships home port.

Your sailor must sponsor the family member ( male can only sponsor another male).

You are usually on board about three days.  You mirror your child on their job.

If you are new to the Navy, I would strong suggest that you get a passport.  You never know when you have the chance to meet up with your child in a foreign port.

Well, I just heard that my DS is going to be on deployment again next Dec so there will go another Christmas without him.  He still hasn't received our Christmas package that was sent 6 weeks ago. For Christmas 2011, I think I will send it to him at home and hopefully he will have it before he goes on cruise.   We are waiting on Tiger Cruise dates.  I guess that it takes a bunch of planning for the ship to go into Pearl Harbor and until that is approved, not dates.    "Bureaucratic reasons" I guess.  I hope they don't wait too long as the cost to fly to Hawaii is not going to get cheaper.

Good luck to all of your aviators on getting their 1st selections and kudos to all the solos and good jobs all around.

snowmc.....you're so right..last year went by so fast.......this time last year they were in their 1st week of OCS...just think where they will be this time next year.

My son's 1st choice is jets.....2nd choice, E-2.....but, honestly, he would be happy with whatever he gets....he's just so happy doing what he's doing. Everyone is so right....what a ride this has been!!!!!

Glad you had a good holiday...sorry some were missing this year.....we were fortunate everyone was able to be here....probably won't happen next year.

lou2949: Our son phoned the day the T-45 went down..he didn't want us to hear it in the news and wanted us to know it was not him but that the pilots were both safe.

What platform is your son hoping for? Ours is hoping an E6 slot is open...that's his first choice. Can you believe we are at this point? Remember where we were a year ago? What a year 2010 was!

Glad you kids could all be home for Christmas. 3 of our 4 made it home. DS and DIL had to stay in P'cola....she couldn't get time off work and airfare was WAY to expensive. Oh well....maybe next year!

Haven't been on here in a while.....had major computer issues then service disruptions constantly....things seem to be back to normal again so have been busy catching up with all the great and exciting news from you all. Musicmom, can't wait to hear about your granddaughter and the 1st time you hold her....there is nothing like it I can assure you. Leslie, I had to laugh at you wanting your quiet, peaceful life back after all the cooking and cleaning over the holidays. I can totally relate ( I lived at the stove and the kitchen sink for days) but it's so much fun..just a lot of work. All my kids and grandchildren were here for Christmas....was so special since we have no idea when we'll all be together again. Our son was home from P'cola for 10 fantastic days....we had a blast. Hated seeing everyone take off and go in all different directions. Two more weeks or so in Primary...has gone by fast.....will soon know his platform..pretty exciting. So glad everyone had a great holiday season with loved ones at home....

Welcome MaryD...this is a great group on here...such support and a wealth of information.

Did anyone hear about the T-45 out of Pensacola that went down near Tallahassee over the holidays? Both pilots ejected safely, that the Lord. Another stark reminder...........

My heart breaks for the family of the pilot out of CC.....so incredibly sad.

Shelia..........so glad you had a nice visit with your son and DIL.

So happy everyone on here is doing well.....here's to a safe, healthy and happy 2011 for all of our aviators!!!!!!!!!!!

My last post was 12/30, but if you scroll to the bottom of the page, you can go back quite far in older posts - at least I've been able to.  Right now for us, I guess the old adage is "no news is good news"

Is anyone else not getting the posts.  The latest activity is showing 3 hours, but the most recent post that I can access is from Jan 2.  Just wondering
