Hi everyone, I'm a mom of a beginning aviator!  He graduated from OCS in November, and is in Pensacola now, will begin IFS on January 3.  I'm interested to learn from you all as he begins this new phase of his career!

Merry Christmas to all.  Enjoy your families and those of you who are lucky enough to have your aviators home...congratulations and treasure them.  My son and his new wife are in Pensacola this year...first time he won't be home for Christmas.  Have a very merry Christmas everyone!

Well my son is on liberty for Christmas in Dubai according to the Lincoln FB page.  I still don't know if he got his package or not.  I hope so, as there was a camera in there for him to take out at night.  He has a larger camera for sightseeing.  I know that the liberty will improve his mood.  Merry Christmas to all of you.  I hope that all of your loved ones get home or you get to them safely.

Hi - Just joined this group! I am the mom of a 17 year old "future naval aviator"! My son will be graduating from high school and will be entering the navy either with the NROTC scholarship to college or through the Advanced Electronics or nuke program. His dream is to fly planes - it seems like a long road to that goal but he is ready to embrace whatever comes his way. Just wondering about other stories - how your sons became pilots. How long does it actually take? My son thinks that he will be career navy. I am so excited for him, but this is all so new!

Hi Everyone! Well, my son is less than 3 weeks away from OCS graduation!! Would have been Dec 24 but due to holiday standdown it was delayed until January. But, that's okay---I have him home for 2 weeks!! Then he goes back to graduate. He is going right to P'cola after graduation. Any advice on where he should look for a place to live there? He said they pay for a hotel for a few days so he can look. Is on base an oprtion? Are there recommended areas off base, and/or any to avoid? He has no idea yet when he will start API....could be months. Plus he is a pilot already. . He doesn't know if that will speed up or delay the process. He has been looking for housing options online but could really use some help. Any advice??

Congratulations to all the parents of the new graduates and welcome to the aviation community. Hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and for those of you who are fortunate enough to have your loved ones home it will truly be a special time. Our son returned to his family yesterday from a 7 month deployment on the USS Harry S Truman. We will catch up with him and his family in about 10 days. They are moving from Florida to Virginia with the repositioning of his squadron so it's Christmas this weekend, then pack out, then move in for New Years. The kids will start new schools in a new State after the holidays. My husband and I provide logistic support plus we get to visit. Navy life!

My DS was commissioned by an admiral too.  Only his was the dad of one of his classmates in OCS.  It was sort of funny.  Outside ceremony.  Three cannon blasts for the admiral and about 50 car alarms.

Hey, say a few prayers form my DS.  He sent an email saying that he was sort of depressed.  He said he is getting better and they apparently have a port call soon, so he is feeling some better with that to look forward to.  I think it is just the same thing day in and day out.   My husband is reading book about Top Gun school and pilots.  They liken it to the movie Groundhog Day.  Same thing day in and day out.  Good thing that he isn't on a sub.  I am hoping that the GF hasn't done anything to make him depressed about.  They didn't meet all that long before he deployed, so no real attachment yet, but I know he really likes her and has another 3 months before he will see her again.

Congratulations Denise and to your entire family!! I was thinking about you this weekend and all of the festivities. Andrew flew home Sat. with little sister a day earlier. Can't wait to see the pics when they come on the site.

Thanks DJ and happy happy birthday

Lynn...The first grandchild was almost born at the squadron picnic.  They were getting ready to start cleaning up from the piicnic and DIL got up out of her chair and her water broke.  She made it to the hospital for that one also, but here again just in time.
