Musicmomfran....Yes you are right Navy baby's arrive with drama.  Our last one waited until his dad return from deployment to arrive.  Son had just gotten home, they went to bed.  DIL woke Navy son up at 1:00 in labor.  Navy son had to call a neighbor to take the two girls (ages 6 and 3) get the girls bundle up and down the street.  Come back get DIL dress and downstairs to the car.  Drive to base.  Arrived at the hospital at 2:00 am and baby was born at 3:00.  At least they made it to the hosptial:)

FCLPs are Field Carrier Landing Practice  (plural).  I have yet to watch Speed and Angels.  I want to though.  My DS says that it is pretty good.

Did any of you see the Army/Navy commercial by the USS Abraham Lincoln?  I had seen it on their FB page and they were hoping that it would get on national television and it did.  I don't know if my DS was able to watch the game or was flying.  He sent a picture of him flying over Afghanistan taken by a tanker.  Great stuff.  He said at night that he flies over a bunch of fires in camps.  What he can't figure out is what they are burning.  Very barren landscape with no vegetation to speak of.

AH - thanks for all of the info. It looks like the selection is VAW 123 Screwtops out of Norfolk which he wanted. Training for LSO will begin on deployment as well as lots of flying. Deployment should be a bit shorter as the Enterprise is scheduled for decommissioning in the near future. Hope I can share all of this - if not someone please yell at me:)

My husband was an AF brat. When we were in college, he had his wisdom teeth out. Since he was in college and far away from any base of any sort, a local dentist did it. The dentist could tell that he was a military dependent from the dental work done. Private oral surgeon sounds like a really good thing.

Julie, I guess that they have changed things since Mike finished his carrier quals in Feb 2009 or maybe he didn't express interest in being a LSO while in the RAG. He started training earlier this year for it and has been very active since on deployment. He says that he is flying 4 day and is LSO for 1 and then 4 and 1 again. Says that it is better than sitting in the tiny office on duty like the other pilots. Fly 6 and duty 1. Not quite as much flying but active. Non-activity is what he complains the most about being on the boat. While on duty or down time. They can't escape and they want "entertainment". In his care packages, he said not to send snacks. He says that it incourages bad eating habits. Everyone shares what they get and there is too much already. Movies and magazines is what he asked for. Good luck on selection. There is at least one squadron that is on the Abraham Lincoln that is based in Norfolk. VFA 34. So if he gets that, he may be joining my son.

Thank you all for your kind words and sharing in the excitement of this navy mom- I really appreciate them!
AH- I think we find out what squadron etc. Andrew is assigned to in the next day or two. I will keep you posted. Celebration this weekend in Norfolk for the guys who CQ'd- sister will be going down(study break from college finals-haha) to help (participate ) in the celebration.
Andrew also had to go to a private oral surgeon - his teeth were so bad. Never thought they were bad but you know the Navy.
Jane- can't wait to talk to you about the winging!!
Denise- have fun at graduation and commissioning- I will be thinking about you.
