Erin will do great. We didn't know about Mike's first flight until it was over. They wouldn't be putting her in a plane unless they were sure she was ready. Mike's first flight was on a Monday and he soloed on Thursday. Things move a bit more quickly out in the RAG.

They get a really cool suitable for framing certificate for "crossing the line".

Hey guy! Thanks for all the comments on Ninja's flight jacket...he adores wearing it! I actually acquired 2 of them since the first one came with a defective zipper from the factory. The store I purchased it from was in California but I have yet to find the name of the store. I will continue to look for it and will post the information as soon as I find it. My local seamstress was able to fix the broken zipper so Ninja now gets to enjoy a jacket here in MS with me and one with his dad in WA. He is such a lucky little fellow...or perhaps we are the fortunate ones...he is the best!!!

Also, thanks for all the breast cancer support. It holds a very special place in my heart as I know it does for so many others. I don't believe there is anyone out there not affected (in some way) by cancer. My Aunt has just finished up with treatment and although extremely tough, she is doing well.

The "Crossing the Line" or "King Neptune" ceremony is yet another military event (like the tie cutting) that will never be forgotten by our men and women. A friend of mine and I were just discussing this a few weeks back at dinner and it is so funny that has been brought up on here now. He went through the ceremony back many years ago and was describing it to me in detail. I have also seen some of Bills pictures and heard him talk of his polywog days. Flyboymom--can you imagine what your shellback will do when it is his turn to help in the actual ceremony!! :)

I lost my mom in 1985 to breast cancer...I was diagnosed in 2000 but, thankfully, it was caught early.....my sister in law just passed her 6 year mark after a stage 3 diagnosis....I don't know anyone who hasn't been touched by this disease. The strength, courage and grace of women inspire me. These young women who are now Navy aviators inspire me too.......prayers for all who have been diagnosed or know someone with breast cancer.

Ditto. I lost my mom in 2001 to breast cancer and Parkinson's disease.

He's been pretty good about writing emails to us, but the call was a treat. I don't think that we'll get that many calls, but I was so glad that he thought of us and called. Made my morning - that's for sure. I asked him if the deployment was what he thought it would be. He says that due to his duties of being the aircraft officer which about 50 people under him, that he is really busy most of the time. I think he is really looking forward to a few days off. He says that Kuala Lumpur is very diverse. It is mostly Muslim and about 1/2 of the women wear burkas (sp?) and the other half wear as skimpy clothes as would be worn here in the States. I love hearing about the other cultures. I've never been off our continent and only been to Canada near Niagara and over in Mexico near Juarez (back in 1973). It is going to be fascinating to hear about all that he sees and does. Quite a life our loved ones live, isn't it?

I got a call from my son this morning from Malaysia. I was in the shower and had to hop out, lol. Then had to get his Dad up to talk too. I can't tell you how nice it was to hear from him.

One of the photos I just posted got "featured" on the site. I sent an email telling my DS that his photo was posted on the site. Thankfully it was the one from the back. I'm sure that he wouldn't want it there for everyone to see!

I also love the doggy flight suit. Too adorable. Last night we had a thunderstorm in the middle of the night. Maggie went crazy. She was trying to get into the 3 inch gap between the bed and nightstand. She's 45 pounds. I'm not thinking that Ninja could even have squeezed into that spot. Maggie kept trying. It was a very long thunderstorm, both literally and figuratively.

We got an email from DS that had some pictures from the boat. I guess one of the ship photographers was taking pictures of the LSO and got a few of him and others. I have posted several on my photos. He looks so mature. Where did my baby go. Oops, probably shouldn't say that.

We have a dog who won't bark at visitors if they rub her tummy. If you stop, she'll bark. She is really the sweetest dog but not trusting. We picked her up as a stray out where we keep our 3 horses and it took 2 weeks for her to stay in overnight. She would insist on going out and then one night ... she decided that she would sleep inside. She is scared to death of the vet, but has learned to like it at the kennel when we leave for a trip. I don't believe I would try and dress her though.
