Leslie- that is probably a very good idea....to not divulge too much personal information too soon! Happy early birthday to him! :)

Leslie- what a great story! I remember hearing about my friends tie cutting event (as flyboymom talked about) and it is something (along with so many other events) that will not likely forget!! Having it take place during halftime at the game makes it extra exciting. I can just see those girls giving attitude before knowing who they were and then quickly changing their tunes after the halftime show! That is too funny!

I just got some pictures posted of Tracy's winging on 17 Sep 10 in JAX. What a great moment for her (and us) !!!

CAG is also a nickname for the head pilot of the Carrier Air Wing. It is an old time terminology. I think that each squadron has a CAG bird. I guess that the Admiral also flew the Kestrel CAG bird on the cruise right before deployment.

It is pretty cool to see your kids doing things on the carrier. When my son was in Advanced and doing his Carrier Quals, they took a picture for the carrier newspaper of him taking off. He gave us a copy of the newspaper that came out before he left the boat. I went onto the internet and found the picture with a better quality. I treasure it. That's for sure. This is the second picture that I've found on FB on the carrier. One was him being a LSO for the CAG's 1400th trap. I only saw his back which had the Squadron emblem on it but I could tell it was him and he confirmed it later. Something about the CAG being really low on the approach.

My son sent an email this morning saying that he did his check ride on his Section Lead quals and passed. His is now qualified to lead a Section into combat. He said that it will be quite some time before they actually let him do it, but he can now lead junior wingmen around. He calls it kind of a crucible for pilots. He says that it is a big relief to have it done. He is now Level III complete which means that if he can get a plane while state-side, he can fly it without another pilot going on the same trip. As in - maybe flying home for a weekend. He had a roommate that flew one to Nebraska for a football game and to see his girlfriend. Maybe not in that order though. lol.
