CAG stands for Commander Air Group

My son and his on-wing in Advanced were not a good fit. Eventually after one of those "trying ones", the higher ups looked into why he would get low scores from his on-wing and good scores from the others. He finally was assigned a new on-wing and things went well after that. Still different instructors all the time, but he felt that was good as each had their own way of training and had tidbits to pass on.

By the way- my new profile pic is one of my son on the Abe Lincoln and he is getting ready to go on a training mission with a JSOW - (Joint Standoff Weapon). He is flying the CAG bird for his Squadron. The paint job is supposed to look like the new digitized camo uniforms that they are now wearing on ship. I personally liked the old one that had the Kestrel emblem with the starts and stripes on it.

He says that he has only seen the Pacific for the last 2 weeks. I guess that before when he has been out on the boat, that land is still visible from a distance? He is further South than he has ever been and the heat and humidity is ridiculous. The weather has been nice - so no choppy seas and running on the flight deck in the morning is "quite refreshing". They are currently on a communications blackout. He can receive email but not send. (Or at least what he claims - lol). He is finishing up Section Lead qualifications. Apparently each "event" is a bunch of work and as of Sunday evening, he had 3 left and is looking forward to have more time to work on other things.

TRACY'S WINGING WAS AMAZING! What a great ceremony to honor these 11 fine aviators! I will be posting some pictures tomorrow night :-) Can you tell that we are absolutely thrilled for her ? We got her a set of 14k gold NFO wings for a family gift, and she was absolutely over the moon. Can't wait to get my pictures posted!

I am traveling to Chicago on 10/6 and will be there a few days on my own (husband has a business meeting and I'm tagging along) - anyone out there in that vicinity?? We are then heading up to Wisconsin to visit his family south of Milwaukee, then on to Green Bay on Monday the 11th - I know there's some gals here that are in that part of the country and would love to try to meet you-let me know!

So are all parents interviewed???? Our son has a security clearance from when he worked in CIC on an aircraft carrier....hope that speeds up the process for him as it is still good......he's in the process now of getting the Top Security clearance...neighbors have been interviewed, past employers and landlords are on the list too....could take a while I guess....

Our security interview was before he was winged and before he went to the middle east.

Maybe the security portion of the training happens around winging because that's when my son got the papers to fill out.

He has indicated that the P3 training phase that he is currently in requires security clearances and in fact, they cannot take any materials off base!

It was sort of surprising that we were called for an interview for son's security clearance and I certainly checked out the person that was to interview us and got all paranoid and wouldn't go to the interview w/o my husband. Turned out fine, but what did happen is that they found out about an incident in college that fell into the category of "do you have a problem with alcohol" question. The ironic thing was that it happened with another pilot who's now flying F-18s and had already received his secret clearance. Son said it was pretty funny when the investigator came out to talk to him about it because the guy was just laughing about it and knew it was a total waste of time for him to be there, but had to follow up on it. It involved a golf cart on the school's premises - it's a pretty funny story!

From what I heard, the other references were not even interviewed - so who knows what procedures they use.
DJ - I'll bet getting back on the horse is related to dating - did he recently have a bad breakup with someone? Have a feeling it's not riding horses :)

We've been interview two different times for security clearances. Just answer the questions truthfully.
