Here's some fun stuff - my pilot is going to be taking a P3 up to Pittsburgh for their airshow next week for a static display - he is soooo excited!

Mike was OCS in Pensacola. I think it moved to RI a year or 2 later. He started the end of August 2005. We received a call from him on the following Friday saying that because of Katrina they were moving Corey Station and they were allowed to call out and let their families know. At that time, he didn't know where Corey Station was. I had to laugh when I looked at a map and found that Corey Station was about 2 miles from NAS Pensacola. Apparently the buildings were safer there, but they were in really close quarters in hallways, head to foot down it and about 1 shower to 150 guys. Everyone was sick throughout OCS because of that 2nd week there. He still sounded sicker than a dog when got there for graduation which was in November.

I've been in Pensacola since Sunday night. My son married his high school sweetheart Monday on the beach. Beautiful ceremony (small) and the rain stopped just long enough for us! He finishes API next Tuesday and signs in for Primary on Friday. Looks like they will remain in Florida for Primary...but you know the Navy...that could always change!

Thanks all for your thoughts and prayers regarding my son's housing dilemma however, feel somewhat guilty for even mentioning it as it is just a very minor bump in the road compared to what the Swink family is going through. Our minor nuisances are so unimportant in the grand scheme....
Am keeping an eye on Earl, Leslie. It looks massive. Hope it shifts and stays out over the ocean.
API is complete.....on to Primary....YAY!!!!!

Good news. Mike is flying again. I asked if it was strange. 1 word answer - No. He will be able to go out with his squadron for deployment. Which is supposed to be soon. Still no firm date and I probably won't know what it is until the day before.

Thanks, Leslie......my emotions and profound gratitude are overwhelming at times....I know I'm not alone with those feelings!!!!
My son's housing dilemma continues.....attorney's on both sides involved now.....as of today, no resolution yet.....unbelievable!!!!! Keep your fingers crossed that it works out for him....

And the amazing thing about just knowing these wonderful young people and their dedication to our country and all that entails for them is that THEY make us old folks, (at least my husband and me) want to be better at what it is we do...they INSPIRE us.....what an amazing turn of life......isn't it just amazing that our children are teaching us about dedication, service, honor, sacrifice, and humility, and all that's good in the human spirit???? I am just blown away by it all......will I be emotional at the winging ceremony??? I think so..my son has 3 more days of API...then primary....i've learned so much by reading all these posts and i would dearly love to meet everyone on here but sometimes, when you pass a funeral home and see what i saw, i feel like i already know everyone on some "military" level......we are really a family.....in the true sense of the word.....
