My heart goes out to the Swink family.....driving into the city of Chicago the other day, I passed a funeral home on the way...I've never seen so many American flags lining the driveway and sidewalks of the funeral home....I've also never seen so many Patriot Guard motorcycles in the parking lot with the American flag on all their vehicles. My heart stopped as I passed knowing there was a member of our wonderful military being honored for his/her ultimate sacrifice to our nation. It has stayed with me since that day. It brings home in a stark reminder what our loved ones are doing in the name of freedom and to preserve our wonderful way of life that many in the world are hell bent on destroying. God Bless the Swink family and and all the families who have lost loved ones to preserve our way of life. Our freedom has NEVER been free.....we've always had to fight for it. God Bless all the members of our fine military who know this and still answer the call to preserve it for us all. Is my heart full right now??? You bet it is!!!!

Leslie - I absolutely will be in touch if/when I am there - nothing would mean more than to meet you (and, I think Flyboymom is there close too) in person one way or another!

Today I am the proud owner of a "Qualified Copilot on the P3" -checkride was passed! Now on to weapons & tactics phase. Learned that they don't become qualified for the left side until they get to their squadrons.

Leslie - be careful for what you wish for - we are hoping to make the cross-country trip to JAX for Thanksgiving - boy thinks he'll still be there and maybe we'll come to your house instead of cooking ourselves, although he just bought a smoker and cooked a pork butt last weekend and I'm sure is going to want to smoke the turkey :) Looking into flights now!

Nancy W - do you ever get down to Portland, would love the chance to meet you. My husband goes to Seattle quite a bit for business and maybe that might be a chance for us to meet??

The Northwest is AMAZING - I have been doing a mid-week ski bus up to Mt. Hood Meadows (our largest ski area around PDX) for about 27 years - mostly women - so we are getting excited about the upcoming ski season! But first, the people who run buses from around the Portland metro area are going on a white water rafting trip tomorrow outside of White Salmon, WA - should be fun! Another 90 degree day here - but no humidity!!!

Nancy, glad Josh got his back seat ride. Mike said it was a rush the first time. He says that that his flight status should be reinstated by deployment.

Been hot and humid here too and this is Chicago...it's been terrible all summer...I think that means we're going to have a brutal winter too......boohoo!!!!

Leslie, I want to come to your house for Thanksgiving too....I think that's the place to be.........how fun and so rewarding for you and your husband but especially nice for those guys and gals in the navy who are lucky enough to be there.......your boys are lucky to have you for a mom!!!!!

Bev - Leslie is so right on about the hugging/kissing at winging - by the time you've tried to get the wings through the uni, you just want to sit down so the next person can get up there - but maybe you'll be the last one one up, then there's no one behind you and if it were me, I'd hug/kiss and embarass the hell out of my child :) Enjoy the winging - it is an awesome experience!!!
