I agree - None of my "real friends" have children doing what my son is doing. I feel there is a definite bond for all of us in this group. Thanks to everyone for just being there...

Am praying that all the families and friends of those lost are given strength in the days and weeks ahead....they are all in my prayers.....

The pilot is retired Navy or Air Force under contract to fly. There is an instructor who is Navy. And 2 NFO student aviators. In IFS the pilots/instructors also are almost all contractors.

The news article I just read identifies them. Not sure I should state the names here. I will copy them if you think it appropriate.

My understanding of some of the training squadrons are that the mechanics on the planes are civilian contractors. The Sim instructors are also civilian. I would question that the plane was being flown by civilian contractors but I don't know about NFO's. Possibly one of the Sim Instructors is also a pilot? In any event... very tragic and my thoughts and prayers go out to the students and pilots family and friends and to their squadron mates as well. This affects all of them as well as us.

Spotty news has always been a grip with me. Speically when my son was on deployment to the middle east. The news would say there was a military crash, but would not say the branch of the service or what type of aircraft went drown. You'd search all the news services for info and get nothing. You didn't want to leave your phone for fear of "THE" call.

Where I work another lady had a son who was a jet pilot and mine was helo pilot. Our co-worker would know when we had hear of a crash and how we would go into our new search mode.

My prayers are with the families. God bless all.

Crash - http://www.pnj.com/article/20100412/NEWS01/100412013. Everyone needs to hold these families tight in their prayers tonight.

Flyboymom.....My husband wore a sports coat to the winging, my daughter and I wore suits.

Hi Navy Dad - believe me when I say you will see every type of attire at the actual winging ceremony from shorts/flip flops to suits/ties! So I guess, anything goes - but my feeling is that no one seems to dress up anymore for nice occasions. We did dress up, felt that was the most appropriate with the aviators in their dress blues and for the special occasion - our son was winged on 2.26 and husband was in a blue suit/tie; grandfather was in a sport coat/tie and they were all complimentary to my red blazer of course :) The morning is very casual though as you get to get in the sims and tour the base; we changed before the 3:00 ceremony back at the hotel - it's a great day - enjoy it!
