Ladies.....If you get the chance to attend the winging it is a very nice ceremony, not nearly as formal as graduation from the academy. They usually have a ceremony where the family goes on stage when your officer is getting their wings. The new pilots put on their own reception party after the ceremony, nothing for mom's and dad's to do. But it is great to be on hand!

Hi Bev,
I grew up in the city and then later in Kentwood area. My parents now live in Byron Center and My sister in in Hudsonville and my brother in Grand haven area. All aunts and uncles are there as well. I attended GR Christian High before my dad took a job in NY as a senior in HS. I then went to Calvin College and graduated in '80. I know how you feel about when you will see your son again. We seem to set up dates for our next visit to make the separation more bearable. Andrew surprised me in Sept. by flying home because they had to move all the jets out of Kingsville because of Hurricane Ike. Surprises like that keep you going. Andrew was home for 9 days for Christmas and we will be going down in Feb. He hopes to have his wings of gold by early summer.
We loved visiting Andrew in Pensacola--you have to go to McGuire's pub. Your son probably had heard about it or been there. A great time! Thanks for writing back.

Hi Bev,
Couldn't help but notice you are from Ada. I grew up in Grand Rapids and went to college there. My whole family is still there. I however ended up in Albany New York. We've probably covered a lot of the same stomping ground. I just found this site awhile ago but have a son who seems to be following he path of your son but on the other end of flight school. If you have any questions I'll try and answer and if you have any advice I'd love to hear. Take care and Happy New Year.

Bev....He has been a SH-60 pilot for a few years. He was stationed in Norfolk in HSC-26.

He accepted an IA to Afhganistan and just started his assignment there. He will not be flying in this assignment.

With some luck when he returns he will be assigned to San Diego!

Well I am off to work. Have a good day.

I am just laughing to myself. They same problem is true for us all. It is hard to get things out of our sons, in regard to what they are doing and what is happening.

As we use to say when our son was at the academy, if you want to know what is going on, make friends with someone that has a daughter!

Daughters are much better communicators and share more information.

That's had we survived the communications break down.
