The most active group I follow is the group for my boyfriends actual ship, or the "Navy girlfriends, wives and fiancés" group. Anyways, my boyfriend is on the USS boxer, its an amphibious assault ship, the ship has been deployed for awhile but my boyfriend got on it late so I haven't gone through a WHOLE deployment, but a couple months so far. Where is everyone from? (:

Abbylanai and Proud Navy Girlfriend I would love to get to talking more too! I do not know much about all of this but I would love nothing more than to learn and be there for someone going through this just as I am!

Hello!! I am new here and my boyfriend left just yesterday for boot camp. We have been together for a year and a half now and this is our very first time being apart for so long! I've been reading all of the comments and discussions on here and it helps knowing that others have been through this because no one in my family understands! I'm hoping to make some friends here that just understand me :)

Hey ladies! My boyfriend and I have discussed marriage but he always seemed like he wanted to just wait for a few years but in his letter today he wrote "my uniforms cost me more than I thought but I get it back so no big. Plus I've been thinking about making another important purchase... Something to keep you on your feet" ...I'm really thinking he's going to propose!!! Does it sound like that to everyone?!

You're welcome. I know it sucks. The distance NEVER gets easier (I did it with my husband when he was in school too!) But you can still go visit, and he gets to come home for the holidays (which changes once they get to their command, or on deployment!) AND you get to relive those airport moments every time!

Obviously I don't know your situation or how you support yourself financially or what you can afford to do.... But in my opinion, as much as the distance sucks I think it's better to save up to move to his permanent duty station after he finishes school. As an unmarried couple there is a lot of financial risk and unfortunately at the end of the day it will fall on you. That's not to say he wouldn't help you as much as he can but he will be limited. For unmarried couples at permanent duty stations it's a lot simpler than at school commands.

PS I'm NOT trying to say it's wrong or discourage you. Just want to make sure you know everything you have to consider when making this decision!
