Hi Florida Navy Moms....Just checking in.  Hope your Sailors are doing well.  I agree with everyone that there are moments for our Sailors but they seem to adjust pretty well.  I think my son is very happy with his choice and hopes to buy a new car soon. Hoping it all works out for him and all of our Sailors.

Hi Navymom3...My sailor is an OS and adjusting okay.  He has been coming home as often as he can.  It is a 4 hour drive for him from Jax but he doesn't seem to mind.  Thank you for the additional information on that group.  I will join.

Hope everyone had a Happy 4th of July.

For all you ladies who have a sailor in bootcamp or in the Navy second guessing their decision here is a little pick me up.  My son joined the Navy to be a Navy Seal but didn't try out in time so his backup plan was subs.  At first when he left I was a basket case, then the box came and that really made me sad.  We went to his PIR and saw how much he loved being in the Navy which made us feel better.  He was then off to sub school which was easy but he missed home.  He had a little trouble with techno but just graduated this last Thursday.  Now he is in A-school and can't wait to find out what his base will be and graduate and come home for 2 weeks leave after A-school then start his life on a sub.  It was a wild emotional ride for me but the Navy has turned him into a man and he is loving his choice and life.  He still has plans to join the Seals but has to wait until after his sub assignment.  Sorry this is so long but I just wanted to let you know it DOES get better once you see your son is adjusting to Navy life and becoming a man.

Send all the letters you can. Just had a heart to heart with my daughter. She said that at one point she didn't receive mail during a week and a half and it was probably the hardest time during bc. I assumed that others were sending mail but not so, made me very sad. I sent mail in colored envelopes but she said it was never a problem. But plain is usually the way they were mailed. I did send a couple of manila envelopes with picture her nephew did at preschool. Remember to keep the letters positive.

Smile09 thank you! I have 3 envelopes already, plain business, good idea to send jokes and what he can expect...I have been reading the boot camp posts the past few days and wanted to find moms that lived in Florida and are in various stages of their sailor's career...

Send his letters in normal-sized white envelopes with nothing fancy on them.  Don't worry about how many you send.  That shouldn't be a problem.  For pictures, print them on regular printer paper instead of "prints" because they are not required to share stuff on paper with everyone.  They appreciate pictures and letters, so send them in abundance!  Send jokes, news about the world etc. When my son was a recruit, I sent him info on what was coming throughout the weeks so he knew what to expect.  Try not to burden them with stressful/sad things about home. They have enough to deal with right where they are.  Keep your cell phone with you AT ALL TIMES.  You never know when they may be able to call and they don't know either!

Hi, I joining Florida Navy Moms, my son's box arrived this afternoon. He has a 6 year contract to be a Rescue Swimmer....I am so excited for him...can they get too many letters in bootcamp. My dad went to King Point and said if my son gets too many letters, he will be given a difficult time...is this true is this day and age?

It's expensive, the natives don't like us and once you've been around the rock, where do you go?!  Fun to visit once, but I would take seeing my boy on weekends any day.

My boy is on the Reuben James in Hawaii, we are praying that he will get to come home to Fl after it is decommissioned.  First he's got to go on a 7mth deployment.  4hrs to Mayport sounds a lot better than the trip we just took half way around the world.
