Boilermom-
Different states have different rules. In some states PAs are not allowed to practice, in others NPs are off limits, in some states both are free to practice. I lean towards NP- they have more versatility in where they can work as far as types of practice. PAs have more limits. As far as careers in the military, I don't know which one would be better, but I do know that there is a school specifically for PAs in San Antonio that is a military school. Maybe Air Force, but I am not sure. RN is a great way to start if she doesn't want to do military immediately or at all. Then she will be able to work while she is working on her NP.
Hi everyone,
I am a Medical Technologist currently working in the blood bank with a son who leaves for BC on July 7th. He has no interest whatsoever in health care! My daughter, who will be a junior in HS, wants to become a Physician's assistant. Her original plan was to become a MedTech like me (she LOVES science) and then try to complete the extra schooling to become a PA. I don't think it works that way since there are usually 6 year schools just for PA's. Our doctor told us that there are many more job opportunities out there for nurse practitioners than PA's. Any thoughts from anyone on the PA vs CNP careers? She is also considering a double major of premed/nursing to cover any harder chemistry or biology classes that she may need.
Thanks, I appreciate any input!
Scrappy1 My son was told prior to bootcamp that he would be going to A school in GL but in a recent letter he said that was changed to Texas and that it would be 20 wks (14 wks corpsman then 6 wks (40days) HMDA). I can't wait till my SR graduates in 21 days.
How long was your sailor's training in GL?
Been awhile since I got on line. My sailor graduates next week from Corpsman training in GL. He has loved clinicals and the nurses have been wonderful. Did we expect less? He should be home for a few weeks then on to Camp Lejeune for FMBT then he will stay on there for 2 years. Very excited for his growth. Hope all is well with you. Hang in there new Moms, it will get better.
