I am so very thankful for this site.  I might not post often but I always check the discussions because I find most of my questions and concerns answered here before I even ask.  My son is in Groton now for submarine school and its so refreshing to hear the more seasoned moms and wives advice on beginning Navy life.  Cindy I enjoyed your response to Mary about worrying.  I am now putting a care package together to send to my son.  It will give us even more things to talk about when he calls home and keep me busy so maybe I won't worry as much too.

Hi Mary,I wish there was a way to stop worrying but after a few phone calls or e-mails from your son, you'll start to feel better.I find if I'm putting a package together or writing a letter to my daughter it helps some. She was also stationed in Hawaii and then deployed to Afgh.about 3 yrs ago.Hard to believe but she enjoyed her time there because she felt she was really making a difference. She's now deployed on ship duty on the BunkerHill. You have us to fill the gaps when you're anxious and can't take your mind off it and nobody else really understands how you feel.Hang in there and keep in touch here as often as you need to.Take care.

I have been an x-ray tech for over 30 yrs.  My son is in the Navy in Hawaii & leaving for deployment in less than 2 wks.  I seem to be a wreck--anxious & worried.  I'm very proud of him & he loves his work.  Any suggestions to help me come around & stop worrying so much?

Hi Everyone,

I am a long time sonographer, rad tech, mammo too. Our son's PIR is April 15th. We're on countdown, less than 2 weeks! Then he's off to Conn. for sub school. I have been really enjoying the N4M site so much. Its been very helpful for us new navy moms. Thanks to all of you! After my 12 hour shifts its great to relax and get updated.

Hello everyone, I have a daughter day 3 in bootcamp and am a Registered Dental Hygienist who is finishing a bachelors degree (finally!) in Health Care Management. I'm studying for a statistics final on Monday which is helping a bit to keep my mind off my daughter.  I keep gravitating back to this site to read all the comments from many in my shoes.  Thank you!

Karenek, have you tried your ombudsman?  Another great way to get a daily update from the Navy is to go to www.navy.mil and sign up to receive their daily updates.  I will go back thru some of my more recent updates looking for info re: the Lassen.  I also have a Navy Mom friend who seems to know the answers to any and all questions - I'll PM her and see what she has to say.  She also has a son near/in Japan (also another one in the Med firing @ Libya). She really has a lot on her plate right now.  I'll get back to you.

Hi I have a son at BC now, PIR is 5/13. Just thought I'd join this group. I am an OR nurse for the past 7 years. Really missing my son today!

Hi all..... I am currently finishing up a second degree accelerated nursing program. I have one bachelor's already, and will be finished with my nursing bachelor's in August, then looking forward to getting a job - hopefully in Pediatrics. Right now, my best friend is in bootcamp, set to have PIR on 4/15!

Hi, everyone. I'm new to this kind of communication, but hope contact with other Navy moms will calm my worries a bit. My son was never the great communicator, but contacts us less and less as he gets older...28 now. He's on the Lassen in Japan, but haven't heard from him since August...how does one deal with just not knowing where he is and what's happening?

BarbaraR -- As far as I know the Reagan is still in Japan. There was no new news about it moving on in the Navy release I received today (nor the past 5 days).
