LSU, how nice for you to be there in the spring and summer.  It is such a lovely area.  I've been there for several conferences and always enjoyed the area.  You'll have to take a tour of the mansions - they are incredible!!  No way they could be built today, for certain.  My son is in Groton, CT but occasionally goes to Newport to train there as well.  I live in MA so he isn't too, too far away.

Very high unemployment in RI, but you are also pretty close to CT so be sure to extend your job search there.  Also, the pay may be higher in CT than RI.  Just something to keep in the back of your min if you aren't from around here.  Glad you are coming in April, you won't have to deal with all this ice & snow and very cold temps!!

I've been an RN for 18 yrs. but am currently out of work due to an injury/disability.  I'm looking for areas to volunteer in because I loved working in healthcare so much.

An early welcome to New England!!!!!

Thanks Kathleen, I'll have to look into the Temporary Employment. I am also hoping someone on base can help me out with the job hunt. I guess I'll find out when I move to Newport!

Morning all!  Hope you are all warm and safe.  The same hopes for all our sailors!  I told my son to look on the bright side: he is out of boot camp so won't be manning the snow shovels at GL training center.  Sorry for those there.  Have a great day :)

Hi everyone. My name is Julie and I am almost finished getting my Master's in Human Nutrition. I am also almost done with my internship to become a Registered Dietitian. My husband is currently in OCS and graduates 2 weeks from today! I am moving to Newport, RI next week because he starts Supply School in Newport in April and has to stick around until then. Does anyone have a hard time finding a full time job as a military spouse? We will only be in Newport for 6 months so I am wondering if I will be able to work full-time while I am there. I'm not sure employers will like that I'm only there half a year...any suggestions?

Good morning!  I have been a nurse for almost 9 years and work for a small Dr owned hospital.  I sent my youngest son to boot camp last week.  He will go to Pensacola Fl after BC for air traffic controller training.  I am so proud and sad at the same time.  This is my first kid to leave :(

Hello fellow nurturing, caring Moms!I'm new to this although my sailor daughter is not new to the Navy. She's been in for 6 yrs but this all FEELS very new as she left on her 2nd deployment today. She has a 13 month old baby girl in SanDiego and I'm way out here in Western NY.I'm a 56 yr old gramma(x2) and work as an RN for the Dept.of Corrections. Her husband is a good Dad but there is no replacement for Mom.I know how bad she must be feeling right now and can't do anything about it except write lots of letters and tell her how it will all be ok.I'm a whimpy Navy Mom for sure.Anyone in the same "boat"?

Thank you to whom it was to telephone this mornig to report on our daughtrer's tonsillectomy.  I was already at work and unable to get that early morning call.  IDK, it was good - great! - to hear.  At that time, the patient (daugher) was eating a popisicle.  Thank you so-so much.

Hello All.  My son is nuke MM who started power school today; should be lots of nail biting on my part.  I'm a pharmacist; currently retail but hoping to get back to hospital work soon.  I defected to have more time when the kids were growing up.  I've done work with home care and hospice when I ran a home infusion company and really miss working with nurses.  Glad to have found a group that seems small enough to navigate.  MJ

I just joined Navy 4 Moms.  My son Chris leaves for Great Lakes 2/8/11.  I am very excited for him.  I am a Registered Nurse and work per diem at a large community hospital in Allentown, PA.  I am working on finally completing my BSN. My son is going to be a Hospital Corpsman when he finishes boot camp.  He is thinking that he might like to one day be a nurse.  Looking foward to chatting with you ladies and hear about your stories about the Navy.
