So glad to hear you are safe. Bed weather definitely did me harm this winter. I slipped on the ice the parking lot at the hospital where I work during blizzard conditions. I broke my back. L1 burst fracture w/ damage to my spinal cord. Miraculously, the damage did not affect my ability to walk. My bladder function is finally back. I'm getting stronger with LOTS of PT, but the pain is such a barrier. I want so badly to be able to meet my son when he comes to home port, but I'm afraid I still wont be able to travel well enough.

hi all, my son left for bc 3/10 his pir is 5/6 and i miss him so much. he is the oldest of 3 boys and his rating is DC. I am a charge nurse in post-partum, newborn nursery in a small hospital that has 5 labor and delivery rooms, 10 postpartum rooms and a level 1 nursery. we are on our own as we have no nicu or docs on site, so we just roll with whatever and whomever come through our doors. talk about thinking on your feet! I worked L&D for a few years, but did not apply when I realized the set up at this hospital. I dont want to lose my license. anyway glad to find another group to keep me sane while I wait for may 6th. thank you angela

Alright my son has been gone 5 days to ODS in Newport. I am surviving but have no idea how he is doing. Heard from him the 1st 2 days but nothing since. I'm hoping to hear from him this week-end but maybe it will be the whole 5 weeks. He grew up in the era of computers and I'm not even sure he knows how to write-only kidding. I sent him a  letter today and reminded him to write. I'm not worried, just dying for some information on how it's going. I bought him a Littman steph. today for graduation. Every time I look at the clock I add 3 hours for the time difference. Have checked the weather forecast in Newport a couple times. It's going to be a long 5 weeks.

mairead (and all you other nurses) please keep me in your prayers.  I have been a school nurse (as mairead is).  I officially work for our local hospital, but am assigned to the school.  The schools pay a portion of our salary and furnish the room/clinic and the hospital pays the balance and furnishes all the equipment, medications and a medical director (pediatrician) over our clinics who writes our standing orders.  Anyway - we are on the school board agenda Thurs night.  The hospital is increasing the amount it is charging the schools for our services and there are five of us in our districts.  b/c of the budget, they can't afford the new amount so the superintendent is recommending that they not renew the contract.  So..lots of unanswered questions.  Last month alone (Feb. - 20 school days) our 5 clinics saw over 5,900 students and gave over 700 daily meds. We did 60+lab tests (flu, strep, mono,UA, preg) at no charge to the students.  So - we are needed.  (and I need a job!!) I am OK working for the district, but just need to know by the end of school.  I am afraid they will non renew the hospital contract and then not hire anyone, then all of a sudden when school starts next year realize - oh, we need nurses to give meds, do asthma action plans, etc. Just venting - thanks for listening. We have been off Monday and Tuesday for Mardi Gras holidays and I just saw the school board agenda posted - not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow.

Hey fellow nurse moms.  I'm a staff RN at a surgery center in Wichita, KS.  I have been a nurse for almost 9 years.  My SR graduates from basic on 3/25 and I couldn't be more excited!  He then goes to Pensacola for air traffic control.  This was our first kid to move away and it was one of the hardest but proudest days I have experienced.  Stalking N4M has kept me from going crazy.

My son leaves for ODS on Sat. I plan to go to Newport for graduation but will only see him for approx.24 hrs before he leaves to go to Bethesda Naval Hospital. I am so proud of him and love him so much-fell like my heart will break with him leaving. He was out of the house when he went to college but that was only a couple hours away. Now he is going to be across the country-I guess I should be grateful for technology (cell phones, email and skype).
