Hello ladies, have a question about Pensacola. My husband is going down there for A-school for a little less than 5 months. It won't be PCS but we (my son and I) are moving down there on our own because we just sold our house and have nowhere else to go LOL. Any suggestions of nice apartments close to the base? I found a few but am not familiar at all with the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did y'alls husbands get to spend the weekend after bootcamp with you (overnight)? My hubby graduates the 16 of Feb and that is our anniversary and it would be really great if I could sleep in the same bed as him again!

I do not don a uniform, no combat boots for me.
No standing watch, or marching straight, or following cheifs decree.
I am, however, military, this you can not deny.
My husbands station takes him away, yet we are still not good at goodbye.
I dont report for duty or put my life on the line
But my job is just as hard. Im the one he leaves behind.
I fall asleep alone, worrying if he's hurt, lonely, or scared.
To far apart to comfort, he thinks the same; frustration is equally shared.
Not able to follow, I will always be waiting, because that is what I must do.
To get my heart, my Sailor back, I have to wait till his work is through.
The sacrifices my husband must make, are not his alone.
I feel them just as much, yet I have to be strong on the phone.
After I hang up, is when I allow the flood of tears
because if he knew, and heard the pain, it would just confirm his fears.
Alone is how I must grieve, yet strong and proud we both must be,
Encouragment, communication, and unconditional love are whats key.
So, even though I, myself, do not serve and protect
My husband does and that how the military and I connect.
The man I married is my hero, he is the rock on which I built my life.
I stand amoungst the silent ranks, I am a Navy wife.

Depending on where you are transferring from, your hubby will be given a certain # of transfer days (anywhere from 1-8 days) and all other days will be subtracted from his leave balance. His orders will tell him how many leave days he is allowed between commands.

As far as places to live, if you have kids find a place where the schools are good. Va beach definitely has the best school district in the Hampton roads area, but not all the schools are good. My kids went to Birdneck Elementary for 3 years and its a phenomenal school! The Birdneck area is really nice, lots to do and close to the beach and interstate!

Hope this helped!

Jenny: thanks so much! He did say something about this but once we get written orders w/the date he has to report to our PDS, we can actually figure all of this out! He said he can go and ask a bunch of questions at some office, so I am praying it's in the next few days b/c we really need to get our housing application in soon!
