Hey ladies! My husband just landed in San Diego today, our first duty station!!! Does anyone know about how long the wait list is for on base housing out there ? He is E-3 and we have a mini poodle (8lbs and fixed). Curious how long it will take for me to be able to get out there, I cant wait!!!

I haven't used them yet but was going to for shipping my car. They got really good reviews:

www.montway.com

They give you a quote online without having to give all your information. I tried one of those online companies where they wanted my phone number and was harassed for more than a month with emails and phone calls from multiple places.

Has anyone shipped their car? If so what company did you use? I heard the Navy won't pay for your car to be transported.

Most Definitely.  Already planning on packing all the clothes and things with me.  I have a decent sized car so I think I will be ok.

oh girl make sure you pack your necessities. it could take up to a month to get your stuff if the navy is moving you. depending on how busy they are. it took my friend up here a month and a week to get her stuff. idk if you are driving, but if so make sure you stuff it plum full with as much stuff possible.

The Navy is moving me...thank goodness.  But we are just beginning the process now.  ugh.

it would be super stressful b/c your husband isn't there to help. are you moving yourself or in the navy moving you?

Have any wives on here moved to Great Lakes while their Husband was in A school.  Mine will be there at least 6 months, and we are in the process of moving me.  Any Tips, tricks, Suggestions, advice?  I am finding the first move very stressful.

I hope you get base housing, everything is less then five minutes away, and being close to base is good especially if your hubby has to muster at 5:30 am

Its about as muggy and buggy as florida, but pretty pleasant.

On your way here, if you drive, stop by the welcoming center for Sc and pick up broschures* there it will help for when you can go out into town. And you should note that the closer to the university you are the worse the drivers.
