Hi, all. pardon me, i'm still new to the Navy Wife scene. lol We were just married in late Dec of this last year. it'll just be a month being married for us, coming up here soon. :)
My husband is stationed in Jacksonville, FL and i'm still back in our home state here in Nebraska until time allows me to move down there with him.
I have yet to get my military I.D or on his insurance as I was told that he will have to accompany me to the base (in omaha or wherever) to give them all the info. Is that true or is it doable to get my I.D on my own? lol
I still have a ton to learn, but i'm all ears, if anyone would like to share some info/advice!
Anyone in here from Nebraska??
I'm stationed in Kings Bay GA and I just became a Passion Consultant and I'm having an Open for Business Passion Party at my house on Sat. at 6pm if anyone lives close by and wants to come! If you don't live close but would like to buy something you can on my website at www.lindseyblue.yourpassionconsultant.com
The...Candelight Suites or whatever it was called was about 10 minutes from RTC and was AMAZING. I loved it and I'm glad my Sailor splurged on such a nice place. Kitchenette, comfy comfy bed, spacious bathroom...ugh it was excellent.
Congrats to all you with new grads or upcoming grads! <3 I'll be in CT on 2/10 to see my Sailor graduate BESS. :)
I am so glad to have found this group. This a great site, but I am not a Navy mom! My husband is currently in Great Lakes and his PIR is 2/10/12...it can't get here soon enough. He will be in Great Lakes for prebuds and then we will be heading to San Diego. Any advice is welcome!
Casey Lee,
We were there recently for our son's boot camp graduation. We were at the Gateway Inn for part of the time (we moved to a hotel off base when my inlaws got there, we didn't want to mess with all the hassle, since they don't have military ID's..)
The Gateway Inn is really nice. The room was a good size, it was very clean, the bed was comfy, and it had a (VERY SMALL) kitchen area. It even had 2 walk in closets, and not only did the one have a safe in it, but that closet was on a key card lock, too - so you could put your things in there, and if you didn't have a key, you couldn't open it. There are 2 parts to it - one is by the Exchange, and the other is about 1/4 of a mile up the road, and it overlooks the lake. They also have a small complementary breakfast. (cereal, hard boiled eggs, yoghurt, bagels...)
Something you need to keep in mind though, while you're on base, you are NOT on the RTC part of the base, it's on the A school side, and it's sort of like that expression "you can't get there from here". Whether you stay at the Gateway Inn or you stay at a place off base, or you stay at the Navy Lodge, you're still going to have to drive off base and to the RTC gate and go through the gate there to get to the graduation.
We've stayed in a lot of Gateway Inns and Navy Lodges over the years, and they do tend to be decent rooms, clean, and reasonably priced for the area they're in.
Good luck, and congrats on his graduation :-)
******Gateway VS Lodge for PIR?*******
Hello everyone! I'm trying to prepare for my hubby's PIR (4 weeks from today, woot woot!) and I was wondering if anyone could help me out with my hotel questions... I already made a reservation at the Navy Lodge, which I know is off base and all family of SRs are permitted to stay there... The reviews for the Lodge that I found were good, but it seems like so many people will be staying there -- it sounds like it is bound to be noisy and crowded!!!! I recently found out about the Gateway Inn (I know it's on base and since I have my id I can stay there?) but I can't find any information on it! Can anyone tell me if it is nice/clean/spacious/quiet???? Also, since it is already on the base, wouldn't it save time being that there wouldn't be the hassle of the car lines at 6am to get into the gate??????? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! :)
Hey Sarah. I'm not in SD yet but I agree with TropikalParadize. Also, if you have FB there is a page for spouses. I joined SD military spouses without kids because I don't have any and the ladies on there were extremely nice and helpful. Also if you have your husbands sub name there might be a page for it and then you can get into the frg page which I did. They have also been extremely helpful and kind. Hope this helps
