Ali, you sound like me! We were married in October and my husband shipped out in December. I live outside of New Orleans. When I went to my local PPO, they gave me a packet that explained move.mil and that was it. Save your time and gas and just go to the website. Everything that they would tell you in the office is on that website anyway.
Aveo, I did the same thing as you. I had to mail all my letters in two fat envelopes when I finally got his address. He had A LOT of reading material :D
Hi Wives, just found this group. My husband left for BC last week, he is an older recruit (33) and we have a 9month old son together. This has been HARD for me. Harder then I ever imagined. I write to him everyday, even though I don't have his address yet...I haven't even gotten his box yet...But I know he is doing this for us. I'm filled with anticipation and anxiety..will he change after BC? How will we handle the next 4 years, what if he makes this a career?
I'm glad I found this group, its a wonderful site with amazing people. I'm very glad to be here.
That's good to know, Monica. Thank you!
I have an appointment with a financial counselor at our nearest base on Monday afternoon. I'm so excited! (I never thought I'd say that, lol)
I found this...LOTS of info!!!

Missy- I'm not sure what follow on orders are. I'm going with him to whereever it is that he's going after school is over. We'll find that out in a few months. I knew about the DLA and the per diem, but I didn't know we were going to get money for the move itself. I thought we had to have first months rent, last months rent, and a security deposit (at least) saved up. This news has taken a lot of weight off my shoulders!
Monica- Luckily we are newly weds so we don't have much to move. We both lived with our parents before we got married so we both have a roomful of stuff to move, wedding gifts, and some furniture that was given to him by a few relatives who passed away. We're going to have a little hiccup when it comes to moving because we plan on letting the Navy move us (neither one of us feels comfortable driving a moving truck) but all my stuff is 30 minutes away from his stuff, lol. My family and I are going to have to drive all my stuff to his parents house so it can be moved together (minus the dogs, valuables, paperwork files, computers, and "must have" box which will be in our cars). He plans on taking leave in between leaving school and going to his first duty station so we're hoping to caravan to whereever he's stationed. Hopefully things go right!
See, ladies, my problem is I'm a planner. I'm not very spontaneous. Apparently I'm going to learn to get over that REAL quick being a military wife :D
Dayciavu- Your husband will send you a DEERS form 1173 and on that it will have all the information you need to get your Dependent ID. You will need to go to the nearest military base that you live by and go to the visitors center. They will give you a temporary pass to get onto base and will tell you which building to go to to get your ID made. Also, if you're near the base your husband will be stationed at, then you can get your vehicle stickers for the base.
For your ID, make sure you take your marriage certificate, social security card and your drivers license. (Or if you don't have one of those, make sure you take at least 3 government issued ID's; like passport, ID card, green card, etc). They will make your ID right there on base while you are there (they have to take a picture of you, etc) and then give it to you right then. Hope that information helps.
