April... by filing the paperwork he prevents you from moving more than 100 miles until you get your parenting plan worked out. With your husband being in the Navy it will help you cause you have stability, but don't expect more than that. You need to invest in a lawyer and I'll tell you why... What will happen is you and him are going to have to plan a "parenting plan" meeting with yours or his lawyer ( I would do yours ). A parenting plan is where you guys sit down and seperately write how you want the custody to go.. and then come together in a meeting and try to find grounds that you can agree on. IF YOU CANNOT AGREE here then be prepared for court to fight for rights. If he doesn't serve papers on you from a lawyer.. you have freedom to move til he does. He is probably just trying to ensure he gets his time with his son before you move and I can understand that. I don't know your complete situation but this is the process you will go through. I would get it fixed before you plan on moving cause if not, he will prevent you from moving or you will have a lot of travel on your end.

Needs some help...here is my problem...today I went to go pick up my son from his dads and his stepmom told me they have gone to file papers that I cannot move more than 100 miles away from them. We'll my husband will leave for the Navy in December and by the time he does boot camp and school it looks like he will get done next November and then when he gets his orders and finds out where he is stationed my son and I were going to move. My question to everyone is can his dad prevent us from moving to where my husband gets stationed? Will he have a chance of taking him away from me? Just want to know what I am in for? Will I have to choose between my husband and son? Should I go ahead a lawyer up? What steps should I take? Right now we have no custody papers and have tried for six years to be civil and work things out without involving the courts. Can the Navy help me so I dont loose my son when we decide to move where my husband is? This is wearing very heavily on my heart and I dont know what to do. I would love some thoughts and inputs from anyone who is or has gone through what I am about to through. Love April

Alisa-- You're headed to Bremerton? Are you with the Nimitz? Is that right. The Reagan will be headed up there towards the end of next year I believe. I will probably have LOTS of questions for you once you make it there!!

Thanks everyone else! It's so hard to get out and meet people. Between my fiance and I, we have so many questions about how everything works!
