This site definately helps! The longest my husband and I had ever been away from each other was two weeks, and we have never not been able to have some sort of contact..so this was really hard at first. In two days it will be a month since I've seen him, which I still can't believe.
Getting their letters and phone calls is such a good feeling, finally getting to hear from them in some way. When I saw the 847 area code the other day pop up on my phone I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest!
He seems to be doing alright in boot camp, has been sick - but everyone there has at one point or another. Sounds exhausted and is ready for it to be over - but he is overall doing well. Said it is nothing like what he thought it would be. He has been there 4 weeks, 3 more to go! I hope it goes by quickly.

BonnieMae - thats exciting you got to hear from your husband! My husband's PIR is 10/8 and I got my first call from him a couple days ago. It was so great to finally hear his voice. I joined a group for other wives who have moved to where I will be going (Charleston) and they all seem to say it takes about a week or so, so that's not horrible! I can't wait!

Hi everyone! My husband's PIR is on 10/8, then we will be moving down to Goose Creek/Charleston SC area for his Nuke schooling. Can anyone tell me what the process for moving is like? After he gets there, about how long should it take before I can move down there with him? (I was told a week by his recruiter, but I want to be sure! I keep hearing different things) Is it better for the Navy to move you or do it yourself? Thanks for your help!!

We have seperate accounts too like Smoke said. It really helps us because my hubby is one of those "Oh that looks cool I think I'll buy that" people. That way he can't spend the bill money and when it runs out for him. Well he is out of luck. I at least know he can sleep on the ship and eat galley food if he blows it all. :) You will deffinatly need to have a POA on hand just in case you need it. I've never needed mine but I always have it. We also have most of our bills set up to be paid directly. Its easier for me, I am pregnant and I have a 2 year old. My brain isn't always there.

Arriana- If you go to Hallmark they have recordable books. We have alot of these from all different members of our family. As my son turns the page he gets the book read to him by the people he loves. We also have pictures taped on the inside cover so he can see thier faces and hear thier voice too. He loves them and we read one almost every night.

Christine,it might feel like the NAVY is out more, but the unit my ex was with in the ARMY was going to Iraq all the time. They are the only unit that has been there the whole time.they rotate soldiers every 6month to a year, and its a small unit of only 150.So my ex was gone all the time.Im looking forward to my husband now only being gone 6-9 months at a time.Make sure you have power of attorny to handle any finances while he is gone.Good luck with it all.
