Sierrascrapper: I saved ALL my decorations and I would love to give them to you! They have only been used once (lol). I am hoping for an Aug 16th PIR. It is my birthday and that would be the best gift ever! It has been truly a blessing finding this website and all the great Moms on here! I have met one other Nevada mom on here. Her son was suppose to leave the same day as my son, but was delayed a week due to illness. I believe he left yesterday. How long have you lived in Reno? I moved here in 1978 and love it.

Thanks for the excellent ideas Kelly. I would love to see pics sometime of your party if you don't mind sharing. My email is on my profile page if you prefer to share them privately. I just started collecting a few decorations this week from the Dollar Tree. I was afraid I might not find some of the "cool" things if I waited til after the holiday. LOL I did find out that I can order online from Dollar Tree and they will ship it to the store for free! Pretty cool!

We are thinking of having our Anchors Aweigh party at a local park to keep it a little easier and more room too. I love the idea of serving All-American fare. I've been spending a lot of time perusing Pinterest for ideas too. So glad I have time now to find the best clearance deals after the 4th.

Thanks again for sharing, it is so nice to be able to relate to someone nearby. I hope you are holding up good and that you can start sending your letters off soon. Have you started making any plans for PIR? I just found out that my Mom's next door neighbor's grandson left for BC 3 weeks ago. He is going into IT for his Rate. My Mom lives in Carson City. I've known this kid since he was a little munchkin as his Dad was my youth group leader from our church. The Mom is on N4M but I don't know her username yet and I was a dork and forgot to ask. So now I know 2 local Navy families with new recruits!

I got my youngest daughter involved with helping pick out and buying the decorations. We did a red, white and blue theme. We had flags displayed outside, two huge bouquets of balloons on either side of the doors. They were, you guessed red, white and blue. With actual flag balloons as well. We got some great decorations at the Dollar Store. They had a huge selection this time of year. We did all American food. Hamburgers, hotdogs, salads, chicken wings, his sister made patriotic cupcakes. It was so fun! I had a table set up with his baby album. That caught a lot of attention. I also provided navy inspired blank notecards and asked everyone who attended to write him a inspirational note. Needless to say I have a lot of letters to mail.
I immediately found this website right after he signed. I am so thankful for ALL the wonderful support. I have learned so much and have peace of mind that he is safe. Thank you for all your kind words of support. If you have questions regarding my experience going through this please ask. Most of my friends don't get what this is like. It is nice to have other moms who KNOW what it is like. Makes it so much easier!

Good to hear Kelly W!  I hope that box gets there for you today too!  It's cool to be able to follow someone locally so I can know what to expect in the future.  I know, I have PLENTY of time to prepare, but I'm one of those Moms who is curious about everything and likes to plan ahead.  LOL I'm doing GREAT, even though little things hit me when I think about everything that is going to happen this school year and beyond. It seems like everything is so finite and that each holiday this year is going to have more meaning.

Right now I'm trying to figure things out for next summer like grad party and anchors aweigh party.  I have twins and so I'm trying to make sure the one twin doesn't feel like he isn't special since his brother will be getting a bit more attention with going into the Navy.  I think we might have a grad party for both of them together and then an anchors aweigh party separately.  I would love to hear how your anchors aweigh party went and what you did for your son.

My heart is with you and your son.  Stay strong and keep counting those days til you get the form letter and then making plans for PIR.

I'm sure there is a bigger concentration of Navy loved ones in LV proudodmom. I'm in Reno also ski-nanny. I would like to get to know you and a few more with Navy loved ones. I'm hoping that after my son gets back from Boise, I'll get to know a few more family members in the DEP program.
