Welcome to everyone who has joined. We'd love to hear your stories about your NFO.
My son graduated in 2004, was winged in 2006, has been on one deployment, and was recently selected for Test Pilot School- yes they take NFO's! It's been an exciting and sometimes emotional few years.
Please tell us a little about yourself and your NFO. If you have questions about training, deployment, or anything else, please ask. There will be several members with experience to help out the newbies.

Donna, I went from Pearl Harbor to San Diego, same trip you did.  Did you spend any time in Honolulu before you boarded?  How about in San Diego after?  My son is back with his wife and son, who's just under 2.  They're enjoying having him home that's for sure.  I'm not sure why, although it has something to do with timing, that he'll be doing his next training in Lemoore, CA instead of at Whidbey, or in Oceana, like he requested.  It'll take 9 months for the transition from EA-6B's to EA-F18G's.

Welcome CristyD! I agree the Tiger Cruise is a fantastic experience.  We got to do one on the Truman when our son came home from deployment to the Persian Gulf.  We met it in Jacksonville FL and cruised up to Virginia for 3 days.  The air show out at sea was the best!  Makes one so proud of their son and so proud of our NAVY men and women.  Getting to see all the different jobs there  are to do on board and are done with such pride and perfection.  I would tell anyone to never pass up this opportunity should it arise.  Glad to have you on the NFO mom group and a NAVY for mom member.

I just spent a week with him on the Reagan as part of the Tiger cruise.  He's with the Prowler squadron VAQ 139 up in Whidbey.  I found out about the Navy for Moms site from another mom aboard.

We won't be in Pensacola, but have checked out their website.  DS is flying the E6, so we will be in Oklahoma City for the winging.  I think the price of gold ($1900/oz yesterday) is driving up the cost of the gold wings.  Haven't decided exactly what we are giving him yet, but love the idea of the wings.

Here's the link for the wings...http://www.flywings.com/catalog.htm.  they are in Pensacola, have great service, and we were able to get ours to bring out to JAX from California for the ceremony.  Congrats again!

Great idea....if you can remember where you purchased them, that would be very helpful.  Thanks!

Winging Gifts -- Lots of good info in the Naval Aviation group, but we got SD a gorgeous set of 14K gold NFO wings that SD wears with dress whites.  They are gorgeous!  About $500...don't know what your budget is but I can try to find out where we got them.  Congrats on his winging!!!!!!

Son is winging in September.  Other than the challenge coin, does anyone have a suggestion for a good gift?  His wife is getting him a picture and model of his plane.
