Welcome to everyone who has joined. We'd love to hear your stories about your NFO.
My son graduated in 2004, was winged in 2006, has been on one deployment, and was recently selected for Test Pilot School- yes they take NFO's! It's been an exciting and sometimes emotional few years.
Please tell us a little about yourself and your NFO. If you have questions about training, deployment, or anything else, please ask. There will be several members with experience to help out the newbies.

Go to airwarriors.com...scroll to NFO.....you might find something there...or just google, Navy-NFO. They do not get a pilot's license in training, however, during the 1st phase of training, I think they do get about 25 hrs. of flying time. Not too sure about that. Since my son has his license he skipped the 1st phase and went straight to API. Shelia, so happy to hear your son has a start date....I could feel your excitement on the other site...so happy for you. Plus, to be in training with Leslie's son...how fantastic!!!!!

Hi Shelia, DS just completed Intermediate as an NFO....he trained with the SNA's until Intermediate, then they went their separate ways...SNA's went to Corpus Christi for additional training...NFO's remained in Pensacola. He got the E-2 (1st choice) so he'll be going to Norfolk for additional training on that aircraft. Had he chosen jets, he would have remained in Pensacola for advanced training. He will be carrier based so will go on regular 6-7 month deployments. He was on a carrier when he was enlisted so he's excited about going back to the carrier world, esp. on the E-2. He trained and flew the T-6 in Primary (he does have his pilot's license so not sure if all students get to fly that or not and he trained on the T-39 in Intermediate but did not actually fly that aircraft. His job as an NFO has many similarities to the job he had as an operations specialist....tracking, detection, link...he worked in the CDC on the carrier and loved it. Hope this helps a bit......you're getting so close!!!!!

Hi Sheila -- NFO's do not have to "fly" the P3 or P8, or whatever :-)  The NFO's start their specific job training (navigation, tactical, mission command, etc) after API.  Tracy is just now (after being at Whidbey for 4 months) getting ready to go on her first tactical exercise and then will be deployed in April (sigh....).   Cool thing?  EP-3 squadrons only are deployed for 60-90 days :-)  They rotate the crews as frequently as they can.  I know that P-3 squadrons rotate as a crew and are out longer than EP-3's.

Thanks everyone!  We are very excited and proud of him!  Still waiting for orders...they get to visit Oklahoma to look for housing.  They also hope to be able to come home sometime soon.  REALLY hoping it is soon...they did not get to come home for Christmas.

Was just reflecting on the past year...one year ago, my son was graduating from Boise State, reported to OCS on January 3rd, graduated the end of March, reported to Pensacola mid-April, started training mid-May, got married August 30th and will be finishing primary in late December or early January. Let's hope and pray 2011 is as successful! God bless all our servicemen and women.
