Does anyone know what a sailor does when he gets to Norfolk . Will he need to get his on way to the base or will he be picked up. I worry about him and being taking advantage of.

Navy25, I surely feel for you.  My son is a corpsman, and I'm sure your son is getting good care.  I used to think if I needed care I'd only want Mass General in Boston, but having seen and learned about the Naval Medical Centers, I've changed my mind!  Except that I'm not military so I'm out of luck LOL

Best to you, we're so blessed to have a Navy son.

My son has been in since August 2010 and he is 27 years old I missed 2 of his last Bdays since he has been in the Navy which falls around Thanksgiving a Holiday I really enjoyed when he was home but I have still celebrated and even got a cake for him and my Step Grandaughters have taken the role of making a wish for him and blowing the candles which has been sweet and memorable for Me and my son really enjoys seen the fotos of the girls blowing the candles. I guess mentally it keeps me from being really and totally depressed I guess we learn to adjust a little somehow but one thing I would NEVER STOP doing is Worrying about My Son no matter where he is or how old he will Be or who he is with Married or Single. I wouldnt be his Mother if I didnt WORRY about him from the day that I held him in my arms 27 years ago and he made my Life such a Great Joy and seen him Grow to The Wonderful Young Man that he is today Im Forever Thankful to God to have giving me the Joy of Being His Mother and now more than ever I worry about him because he was injured on his ship 4 months ago and I feel helpless that I cant be there to take care of him like he should be taken care of properly. So you see a Mothers Love is to always worry about your child because there is no other Love in the World that can match it and I Pray to God that My Son can get better soon because my Heart is breaking knowing that he is suffering in pain with his back. I would gladly take all his pain and give it to myself if there was a way as long as he was healthy again. Sorry for going on and on but Im having a bad day missing and worrying about him.

So nice to  know that I am not the only one who thinks and worries. I try and not tell my sailor as he would tell me that he is on his own now and has to take care of things on his own. I know it is true but stiill hard to adjust to. I want my son to grow up but when he starts to all I want to do is, well you know.

Proud Navy Mon of Two Sailors...My son has only been in about 8 months and I am like you about worring.  I just hope as he gets use to navy life and more knowledgeable to the navy way of doing things that I will get better...I can hope for the both of us.

He called from the Navy Lodge late last night-said he went to the USO and they hooked him up with a couple of Marines who were going that way-cost him $20.  Can anyone tell me when you stop worrying about even the littlest stuff?  I really need to let get better!  I keep having a nightmare of him on a ship and me trying to find a good restaurant for him to eat at on leave in some distant country if I can't get this under control!!  :)
