It's actually a lot more common then you would think. I know several wives who move home when their husbands deploy. They save money because they aren't paying rent, electricity, cable, ect. And it's a safety thing. Our husbands hate the fact that we're home alone just as much as we hate being home alone. My husband went underway right after we moved here last year, and I got in a pretty bad car accident (a deer jumped in front of my car) and because I didn't know anyone, I didn't have anyone to call. Luckily my sister only lives three hours away, so she could help, but a lot of wives don't have that. My husband was upset he couldn't be there, but was relieved that I had family near by to help. So being closer to family and having them around to help while our husband are gone is another motivating factor. Especially if the wife is pregnant. If it wasn't for the fact I have a full time job, I'm sure my husband would try to get me to move back into my parent's during deployment. And I'm sure she isn't happily planning. It. She might be putting on a brave face and acting excited, but no one likes packing up and leaving because their spouse is deploying. It's a hard decision to make, but sometimes moving back home is the best option.

How common do you all think it is for a Navy wife to pack up their marital home and move back "home" while their husband is deployed?   This is what my daughter in law is happily planning.   I'm a little disappointed and confused as this would involve moving her across the country twice, which of course will cost money they don't have.  They have only been married one year.
