For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

RED CROSS CONTACT INFO:

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

In Jacksonville, we lived in one on the first floor, so to make multiple trips out to the car for grocerys was whatever. But when I went grocery shopping for the first time a few weeks ago, wow! The good thing is that you get quiet the workout everyday (:

I lived in a walk up a long time ago, 5th fl in Boston but it was a sublet and furnished thank heaven! It definitely affects what you buy at the grocery store when you have to think about hauling it home :)

Also, go this group to find her ombudsman - http://www.navyformoms.com/group/whatsanombudsmanandhowtocontactthem - just ask "A Sailor's Mom" and she'll help you out, or read how to DIY in the Discussions. Then ask the Ombudsman for contact info for the Family Readiness Group (FRO).

If you find the apartment you want off of the website you can tell them and they will send you a 100 dollar visa gift card just for renting through them and the apartment we had gave us great discounts on rent every month. I highly recommend it.
