No, no tunnels or bridges between the hotels and the base.  & yes, it's fun to share with others here what we learn as we go!

Michelle, here is all the info about the Navy Lodge plus pictures - http://www.navyformoms.com/group/norfolksailorsfamilyfriends/forum/...

The carriers are at the base, just a stone's throw from the Navy Lodge.  Virginia Beach is nearby but the rates at the beachfront hotels really go up in the summertime.  The Marriott and the Sheraton at Norfolk's downtown Waterside are also very nice.  As for events while you're there, check the links here Things to do in Norfolk

Michelle (AO MOM) just google hotels near Norfolk base and that should pop some up. As for the Navy lodge Your sailor will have to check in within 24 hours after you check in with his military ID. But they are very reasonable if you explain to them why you are coming they start booking 60 days in advance so i would suggest you do it soon if you are going to stay there because they do fill fast during homecomings.

The navy lodge  hotel is nice and very close to base. cost depends on rank. but very nice with a kitchen and pots and pans. I have stayed  there a few times.
