For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

I'm not even messing with the Navy Lodge. I going to my son's homecoming and we are only given 72's notice of when the ship arrives. So I won't have his arrival date for a long time. And I'm driving across the country. I may try the Navy Lodge once Sailor son is in port. My guess is after being on deployment for 7 months, he'd LOVE to stay at a Hilton! And he'll have a car to drive back and forth. Oh, yeah, don't forget there is supposed to be a Tiger Cruise from Rhode Island to Norfolk. Another kink.

I love Google Earth too. And yes, I was meant to be a spy! I have to know everything! It's such an "endearing" character flaw.....lol
The Norfolk base is a very old picture. Did you notice how many carriers where at the piers???
I've never been to Norfolk, so this will be an adventure for me. Don't know anything about the weather (yet).
I'm going to start making my lodging reservations the beginning of March.

Matt is getting a GREAT deal on a car. I just bought a new car so in March I'm driving my old Honda to Norfolk and giving it to him....lol
He WILL have to pay his own insurance and maintenance. Hubby just asked if WE should put new tires on the car before I leave. And they BLAME us Moms for babying them....lol
Matt said in the long-term storage on base at costs $11 a month, includes the vehicle being started once a week.

In addition to its website, Stars and Stripes reports on matters affecting military service members and publishes five daily newspaper editions for the United States Armed Forces serving overseas.
Wikipedia has a lot about it. It is distributed all over like you thought, but it's directed for those serving overseas, hence the different editions. I did not know any of this either. I thought it was published for the military serving here in the US. Learn something new everyday!!!

Kat: here's what I have on Stars & Stipes (this mentions Europe, Middle East, etc)
Stars And Stripes has launched its annual "Valentine's Day Message Board" program online. People are invited to send Valentine's Day messages to their men and women overseas.
Messages received by the January 26 deadline will be published in the February 14 editions of Stars and Stripes (Europe, Pacific and Middle East), just in time for Valentine's Day.
Messages received from January 26 until February 13 will be displayed online ONLY at Stripes.com. Visit Stripes.com for more information about sending a message.
