For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

In the event of an emergency within the sailor’s family, where you feel the sailor must be notified and considered for Emergency Leave, you must notify the American Red Cross through the national headquarters in Washington, DC (1-877-272-7337) or via their website www.redcross.org.

Our Sailors are considered "deployed" when they fly out of Norfolk.

Darla, when they fly out of Norfolk on a military transport, they have 3 stopovers, the Azores, Sicily, Greece then Bahrain. They can get held up at any of those stopovers and once they do arrive in Bahrain, it's up to the CO of his ship to decide if they want to fly via helipcopter to his ship or have him wait in port.
I can't remember where I posted it, but in today's news, the trans Atlantic telephone fiber cable has been cut. Another words, no phone service to the Mediterrain, and the Gulf, including Bahrain and our ships serving in the Gulf. So, your son could be on his ship but he has no way of calling you. From what the news released, they have to find the cut in the cable and then repair it. Once they find it they can repair it in a couple of days.....
My son has been in port in Bahrain and it's very, very Americanized. If you need to ease your mind, go join the Bahrain Moms group. That's what I did to find out what it's like over there. I hope this helps and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask any time!

Our Sailors are told to take at least $600 with them when they fly out of Norfolk, just in case they get "stuck" somewhere like Boo is. He will be reimbursed (some day). But they need to have a lot of cash on them just in case things don't go as planned. The problem right now is the Navy tends to "slow" down during Christmas.....

FYI If you're waiting for a call from your Sailor who is overseas....the fiber optic cable that runs under the Atlantic has been cut. It's on the news today. Until the crews find out where the cut is, all phone service to the Mediterrain and Gulf (including Bahrain) is out. Once they find the cut it will take a couple of days to fix it.

Hi!
I just wanted to wish all of you moms with sailors in school in Virginia a very Merry Christmas. Being on NavyforMoms had been a learning experience for me. In all of my years associated with the Navy, I've never known, let alone appreciated how you all feel when your sons or daughters join the service. Reading the comments many of the moms have made on here I have a whole new understanding of your feelings, sometimes painful ones, especially during this time of year. This has been really enlightening for me. It's added a whole new dimension to my prayers life. Believe me when I say I will be praying for you all with much deeper understanding!

Does anybody out there know of a family how to find one that can "adopt" my Sailor son in Norfolk for Christmas? He is on the Eisenhower carrier and is home now but will be leave to head back to VA the 19th. Thanks for your help!
