I do that, too!  Anybody else?  I also used it to see my son's apartment complex when he moved off base for Prototype, and then the house he's been sharing for the last month.  How did we get along before Street View?  I also like the Bing Maps Bird's-eye feature.  It lets you change the orientation from north to south, east, or west.

lol....I can get into cheap. I do much of my traveling now by Goggle Earth. Talk about cheap and easy. I can skip from one country to another without taking out my passport and do it in my pj's or bath robe! (The food and local music are not as good though)

:-) They're cheaper, and there's no getting groped at the airport!  (We do plan a real trip, though, when he's settled in and not under the sea.)

Oh a virtual vacation? lol

Yes, our bags are virtually packed. :-)

Adam's mom, I felt lucky when Chris did his A school and C school at VA Beach. Even if it was for only 5 mos, it helped a lot. I was able to see him almost every weekend that he did not have mandatory study or duty. He spent 2 years in Korea, 4 mos on the BUSH, and now 1 of 3 years in Japan. I have become more adjusted to only seeing him every 10-13 mos now, but sometimes (like about two hours ago when I looked at his picture) it still drives home how much I miss him.

We are planning a family weekend getaway while they are home. That will probably be about the only time I see them. The rest of their time will be spent in SC where her family is. She did not go far from home for college, so being 1/2 way around the world for almost 9 mos has been hard on her and her family. Her father was in the Navy so she knew it would not be easy, but they have done better than I thought they would.

So you almost have your bags packed for a vacation in Hawaii??

Comment by Adam'sProudMom on February 12, 2013 at 7:39pm

We don't seem to have any concrete Saturday plans for awhile, so I think I can go along with whatever suits everyone else.  (Thank goodness I got to retire last month!  I used to have to work every third weekend.)

Mary, yes, we're so glad we'll get to have Adam here for several weeks - the longest we've seen him since before boot camp.  We have been lucky, though, to have him in Charleston, SC, for more than two years.  After welding school in CT, he's going to Hawaii.  I hope your son manages to get some good quality time in with you while he's here!

I'm available any weekend except April 6-7 (sponsoring a 50 cal BMG match in GA if anyone is interested)

Adam's mom, wonderful that you will get to spend some time with your son. I know my son will spend a lot of time with his wife's family but this has been the first time she was so far from home. IHOP sounds good. Here it is 4:00, now instead of chicken I want crepes!

Comment by Adam'sProudMom on February 12, 2013 at 3:12pm

A late Saturday morning brunch or lunch would be nice.  Several of us got together in December of 2011 at the IHOP off Wendover at I-40 (Lanada Rd.).  That went well.  Maybe something similar?

My son plans to be home on leave for about three weeks (!) before he leaves for welding school in mid March.
