I am spending all my extra money, possibly for the rest of my life, on visiting military children! It is actually how my grandmother saw the world, so I am going to take her lead LOL. Not sure I could pull off the 1700 though. My husband doesn't much care to go, he is 21 years retired army, so he has seen the world and prefers to just be home.

countrymom nice to meet you too. You will enjoy PIR. It is beyond words. You will be so proud of your son. My son that is in Japan got to come home on leave, after being gone for 1 year. He was home for about 13 days. His round ticket was close to 1700.00 so I am thinking he wont come home again till next July 4th or Christmas next year. As far as us going, I doubt it.  He took his advancement test in March and passed. He had went in as undesignated and now he is OS. He was shocked that he passed both parts of the test cause he said he had not got to study as much as he would like because of being so busy all the time. Anyway, probably at the beginning of the year sometime they will send him to the states for "A" school and we will probably visit him there. My oldest son went to "A" school in Pensacola Fl. and we visited him there.

Hey Navymomx2 nice to meet you. My son's PIR is November 30, so not much longer. We are incredibly proud of him, as you can imagine. Alas, I believe he is the only of my children the Navy will get. Oldest is a girl, married to the Army, leaving for Alaska in February, youngest is a girl, and does not do dirty LOL.  So, are you going to visit in Japan?

Hello countrymom. I am from Alexander County, about a 1 hour drive from Charlotte. I have been a Navy Mom since 2007 when my oldest son joined, then again 2011, when my youngest son joined. I have one son in Norfolk and the other in Japan. What an adventure thus far!! So very proud of them both!! :)  When is your sons PIR?

Thanks so much Oceanby,  it will probably be after the new year, probably spring before we are over that way again. Dev will be home for thanksgiving and Christmas but I will be sure and let you know. She still needs to find some partime work babysitting, petsitting etc so you guys let me know if you know anyone who needs that :) I had a great time visiting my Sailor just not near enough time with her. She ended up having to work to get the jets taken care of because of the storm coming in :( But we still enjoyed our time together. Now counting down the days until Christmas. We should have all our kids home this year YAY!!!

Welcome countrymom!!!

Lala!    We had a wonderful time together on the water last night and missed you!  Have a wonderful time in VA Beach. With your sailor.  Please give us the "heads up" when you'll be down this way and we'll try to schedule out get-together so we can include you.  We had parents at our dinner with Navy experiece of "just had PIR" to 5 years in the Navy.  It was fun to hear all of the stories.  I highly recommend other groups doing the get together with their Navy family.

Proudascanbe-Wilimington is closer than Raleigh and the airport is much smaller. Very easy to navigate. The drive isn't bad at all. All the airports here are tiny (except Charlotte and Raleigh).

I am super excited to see this group page getting some comments. I love meeting other Navy Moms, especially My fellow Carolina Girls lol.

Pampered Mom, Oceanby, I have missed you guys. I need to come to Wilmington again for a visit. But it will probably be after the first of the year.

I am going to visit my Sailor in VA Beach in a few days. She has no idea I am coming to see her. There are a bunch of us meeting for Dinner next Saturday night in that area somewhere. I wish you all could join us as well lol. It's not that far right? You might enjoy the drive with all the fall colors hint hint :-)

Sunshine73, Thank you!  Is Raleigh closer than Wilmington? The rates were very good to W...but looks like a 2hr drive.
