Sorry for the delay LaLa I started my last three classes yesterday going to Gardner Webb via online will have degree in May after 27 years HA. Yes I do work but a lunch hour in the near future would be a great break. I know I missed you in Asheville today but we can plan something in the near future for sure. Thank you on the advice regarding driving to great lakes definately going to fly now looking into flights out of Asheville (GPS was the same and Charlotte not worth the drive) Since I will only be there for two to three days if you have last minute items I can take them to the 2/10 PIR for sure! Thank again for the info you gave I am a newbee at this :)
b2pooh- I will tell you from experience it is a luch longer drive than 10 hours. It took us 16 hours to get to great Lakes and 18 to come home. When the websites tell you how long it is they don't allow for any stops or travel delays. We only stopped for gas, bathrooms and drive-thru's but also ran into road construction a few times as well. When my younger son goes to boot camp I will either fly or make it a two day trip up there and back :-)
I would love to meet you b2pooh :-) That would be awesome. Do you work during the week? I am going to Asheville tomorrow to get some more fleece for scarves. If you don't work during the day maybe we could meet for lunch ;-)
Choc-lab-lvr- my daughter is at Oceana and my SIL at Little Creek. I will be coming there in April for a week. I can't wait to come back there. I was there 3 times last year. Went to the aquarium and spent a lot of time at the beach. I really want to go to Williamsburg this trip :-)
LALA I see that you have a Daughter and SIL already stationed in Virginia so you won't be going the the 2/10 PIR but you must be such a busy lady with all the scarves and pins would love to meet at one point since we are neighbors HA
Hi All! Glad to see some recent activity here on NC moms of new SR's. I know there are a few more in the 2/17/12 PIR group. Let's try to get them on here also. Just posted on the 2/17/12 PIR group that I have already decided on the colors I am wearing - Navy Blue & Khaki.
Lala - Where is your daughter & SIL stationed? I actually work in Norfolk. My hubby is retired Navy & we have spent many years in this area & the reason we retired here.
Lala you my Son's is on ship 07 div 63 seen you post on the PIR 2/10 website all the time. I live in Alexander outside of Weaverville SMALL WORLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Would love to meet in person. How are you getting to PIR I am thinking of flying from Asheville looked at flights this weekend and a ten hour drive is really not looking like an option,
I am also a NC mom, I am in Brevard, mountains near Asheville. I have 2 sailors, my daughter and SIL are both finished with A & C-school and are based in VA Beach. I have only met a couple moms from the mountain region but hope to meet some more. I would love to have a lunch meeting or something with other moms in the area if there are any on here.
Hi. Just joined NC Moms. I'm an aunt of a SR but feel like his Mom. I'm from Salisbury. My SR left for Boot Camp 12 Dec. I've been a wreck worried about him. No letter yet other than the form letter. I am getting very anxious as other SR families with the same PIR date received letters this week. Chocolatelablover, have you received a letter? Can't wait to get home today and check the mailbox.
Hi NC Moms! I am up in South Mills, just north of Elizabeth City. My son just left for boot camp on 14 Dec. It was not terribly traumatic for me because he is 28 and has been married and living in Northern Virginia and most recently in Wilmington over the last 3 years. I am most bothered by not being able to chat with him on the phone on a weekly basis. After boot camp, he will go to San Antonio for Corpsman A school. I have to add that my husband is retired Navy so I am well seasoned on how the Navy works.
It really was great. Thanks again to surfermom for setting it up!
