Got my son's form letter yesterday. The little note at the end just made my day. I hope he'll actually send me a really letter one day soon. It's not so weird his being away from home, he went to tech school and worked out of state for almost 2 yrs after HS grad. The weird part is not being able to reach him. But it's good knowing he's relatively safe and doing something he wants.

sonjaangelgirl,
Call his recruiter - they can get the address within a couple days after they report to bc. Once you have the ship/div you can go to the RTC website and find out when PIR is. Good luck to you and your sailor!! I understand the feeling, I was used to talking to my daughter every single day and when she left for bc I couldn't stand the loss of communication. Now that she is out in the fleet, luckily I get to talk to her just about every day again!!!!! It will be hard during bc but hopefully the time will go by quickly and you will be hugging your son after PIR very SOON!!!!!

Almost a week into the BC - received his Sailor in a box after only 3 days from departure day. So upsetting, but comforting. It's very difficult for me still to not hear from my son - the texting were our lifeline. Still waiting for an address!! I decided to write on larger post-its whenever I felt the urge to "text". Little disheartening not getting a text back though :( Only ?? days left - still waiting for a PIR date. Anyone know when the address and PIR date is received? thanks!

Hi! I am in the Outer Banks.... anyone nearby? My son left for BC 10 days ago. The silly dogs still go to the door each day at the usual time he came home and wait for him. It tugs at my heart strings but I am so proud of him!

Deneen and Susan....welcome! I am still relatively new to the Navy thing but have learned so much on this site! The moms are great. I am in Greensboro.

A suggestion if you haven't done it (talking about bank accounts made me think of it).......someone on this site suggested getting Power of Attorney and be sure it includes healthcare POA. I have already used mine twice and he's only been gone for 3 months! I had to use it to get his stuff shipped to him as well as his car. Also, though we don't like to think about it, they need a Will. We had that done as well before our son left. Good luck and hang in there and don't forget to cry on our shoulders....been there, done that!

smcdaniels and Deneen, welcome to the group and best of luck to your son and daughter. They will do very well. I not get on here as much as I use to. My son has been in a little over two years now and it was hard when he left to. You will shed some tears, and at you will feel like those eight weeks will never get here. But, it is all worth it when you get those letters and hopefully you will get more than the one call that I got. My son, decided to give his call to his friend to go his girlfriend. But, the PIR is something to see. Deneen, I'm in Stokes County not far from Winston-Salem at all. I know there are some moms, I think that meet there. But, this is a wonderful sight and you will make some wonderful moms and make some wonderful friends to share memories with. Best of luck to you and your families and your son and daughter as they get ready for this next step in their life.

My son leaves November 9th. We went to the bank today to get his accounts updated and get direct deposit forms. Doing these things is starting to make it all become real to us. Zach told me last week that he is ready to go. He went to Marine Boot Camp Graduation for a friend of his and was so impressed that he is just ready to be a part of something great like that. He is a little scared and unsure of some things but he is ready to start this next chapter of his life. I have such mixed emotions. I'm so very proud of the decision he has made, but he just turned 18 and there is a lot he hasn't experienced yet. The mother in me wants to hold him close and protect him, but I realize it is time to let go and let him spread his wings and fly. This experience will be hard at times, rewarding at other. But what a wonderful opportunity all of our children have through the military. I'm glad to have everyone in this group for support. It has helped tremendously to know that you all are feeling and have felt the same way I am feeling now. These next few weeks are going to be difficult, but we can face them together.
Susan
