Hey guys,
I joined the group a few months ago but this is the first time I had an oppourtunity to comment. My son, Zach, is scheduled to leave for boot camp on 11-09-2010. He has been going to DEP meetings since June. I'm a little anxious about him leaving. He just graduated high school in June and turned 18 in July, so he will be one of the younger men there. I'm very proud of him for making this decision and have all the confidence that he will do well. We live in the Union Grove area which is in the northern end of Iredell Co, not far from Winston Salem. I would like to get to know others in my area as well. It would be a comfort to for our family to have and give moral support to others.

Welcome, Christina. I am in Greensboro. There are several of us around but I've not had any face-to-face contact. Hopefully, there might be a get together sometime. :) My son is stationed in Pearl Harbor but is deployed at the moment. I am relatively new to this as well. He commissioned in May. Still learning and lots more to learn!

Hi christina. I'm in Charlotte so not too close. Have you heard from your daughter yet?

Hi Peggy. When is your daughter's PIR date 9/2 or 9/10? Sorry all the guys have to wait so long for boot camp but use it to your advantage and prepare! She didn't have time to read the book or get ready physically. She has still done well and has not complained but I wish she would have had more time.

Thanks everyone, he is going in for a meeting on Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed for an earlier ship date. Rhonda, you are just down the road from me. Nice to meet some locals on here =)

Sunshine73 -- My son went to MPES in Raleigh in July and didn't get his ID card or his shirt or hat either. His recruiter (from Durham) is checking into it but still nothing. He doesn't leave until March so I guess it doesn't really matter until then.

Hi Sunshine73 I don't remember my son getting one either...I see you're from New Bern, I live in Newport and my son went through the recruiters in New Bern..tell your son to ask them about it. My son just graduated boot camp and is in A school at San Antonio, but getting in was a long process...I'll ask my son about the card and let you know what he says.

Hey guys, My son is leaving in January and went to MEPS in Raleigh at the beginning of June. He was never given a DEP card. Was he supposed to get one? I have seen other moms talk about this card but my son doesn't have one. He does have a contract with the Navy, a cool document to hang on the wall, his notebook to study for DEP meetings. Just wondering if NC is different for some reason.

I think you're right about girls going faster. My son did MPES in July and won't leave for RTC until March also. We live in Durham, NC.
