Oooh Nila, Let me think a while and I will remember which of our guys is on the Roosevelt. It's one of the moms who is not on very often but I think I know which one. I've heard that being on ship makes them change their attitudes quite often. I'm glad she seems to enjoy being a part of something so grand.
I will adjust...I will not like it mind you, but I will adjust. I have all my mom friends here and he is going with someone from his school although they will be stationed at seperate areas of the country, they will be within a few hours travel time of each other. That makes me feel better about it to know there is at least one person in the country that he already knows.
I see my emails piling up before my eyes. I'd better run. Take care Nila! And tell your daughter thank you for serving.

Nila, I have no idea what he wil be doing, nor exactly where he will be doing it. Chris is in Intel (IS) so I don't have a clue about anything beyond school. I have heard from moms at this site and at another site, that when your sailors are in Intel they can only say, "I'm going to be out of touch for a while." Or "I'm going on an assignment for a while. I'll let you know when I return" Do what?! "You'll do WHAT!!?? Not only do I not get to know where you are going but you can't even say 'I should be back next week, I'll be back in three monthsl, I'll be back tomorrow'?" And they call him my son..humph. My son always called home if he was going to be out after curfew. My son always checked in on occassion. My son always told me who his friends were and who he was going out with. Now it's all, "Mom, I can't tell you that." So as preparation he calls home less and less since he's been in school. When he's a half a world away and he knows I can't drive there and strangle him, he may NEVER call home. Grrr.

What is your daughter's rate? It sounds like she's been in for a while. She must be happy with her choice.

Wendy, that sounds wonderful that he will be in medical. He might be stationed at Lejune too. It would be a little farther for you but at least within the area. I know what you mean about the sleep "disorders?" lol I still find myself sleeping in my son's bed about once every 6 weeks or so. Sometimes it just makes you feel a little closer to them. For about 3 months I ran around wearing most every baseball cap he owned. He just took one that belonged to my Dad back to school with him the other day. It had my Dad's E5 crow on it. I wore it last week, he saw it out on his bed and the next thing I knew he was walking out the door with it on. Oh well he has plenty more in the closet!!! Most days it will get better over the next couple of weeks but then there will be times....After bc when he can call often it will get much easier. Hang in there!

Hi Wendy welcome to the Navy. Are you handling everthing ok? Bc is certainly a difficult time. Have you gotten you first "real" letter from him yet? While Chris was at GL I almost jerked the mailbox off the post every week until I'd get a letter. Then I would give the mailbox a reprieve until late the next week and I would begin to torture it again. :) What rating did he chose? Has he mentioned where he might like to be stationed after school? Good luck to you and your recruit.

Thanks Nila. It sounds as though the Navy was really trying to make a good impression with the food. I've heard that food aboard ship is great, I've heard it's no that good. I suppose it's like going to a restaurant, it just depends on who's doing the cooking. My son PIR'd Jan. 09 and has 3 more weeks of C school at Dam Neck, VA. I am looking forward to having him home for a few weeks before he has to leave for Asia, the good thing is that his orders say he will only be there for a year. You know the Navy though, everything is subject to change...
Good luck to your daughter as well! I'm glad you had the chance to spend some time with her. Have a wonderful evening.

Happy Navy Mother's Day everyone!

Nila,
How was the Tiger Cruise? I was looking forward to doing one with my son but he is going for shore duty in Asia. :( Maybe in a couple of years he will get on ship and I can do one. It sounds so cool. He was hoping for ship duty but he got something better, and now they've changed his orders again and he is going overseas. He's pretty adaptable so he will be fine there too. Everyone take care!

Welcome new moms. Yes, deployment is hard. My son is on his first one and it is so hard. I miss him greatly. He has got stationed on the West Coast and I was hoping he would be closer home. It feels like he left for boot camp all over again but harder some days. But, I also know this is what he signed up to do and he seems to like the Navy and that is the main thing. It just is hard on mama's heart sometimes. Thanks goodness for N4M
