Hi Everybody: I wanted to THANK Vicky who drove two and a half hours to be with us. Paula who drove an hour and a half. Kathy who brought Blue Star Moms information for us to share. It was a nice afternoon with each of you special Mom's. Unfortunately I have tried to down load the photo and it didn't work. I've e-mailed it to Paula - I'm sure that she can make it work.

Susan,
If you and your husband want to come to Los Altos on Oct 25, we have two spare bedrooms (one w a queen size bed and the other a fold-out double) - you can bring the gift with you; otherwise, if it is small in size and put in the mail, we can present it to him on the Oct 25th. If Lance is scheduled to come to Mtn View anyway, please let him take it. I leave the decision in your good hands.
I know the Blue Star Mothers in Danville is very active. I have not joined the San Jose Chapter but will purchase needed items for boodle boxes.
Even with all that is going on with your "Termination Notice" you find time to help everyone and host a meet and greet. You are an amazing.
Bea
P.S. About a decade ago, my husband had a number of wrongful termination cases - if you want to bring your file for a sit-around-the-breakfast-table informal consultation ...........

IT IS THE SOLDIER

"It is the soldier, not the reporter,

Who has given us freedom of the press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,

Who has given us the freedom of speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,

Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.

It is the soldier,

Who salutes the flag,

Who serves beneath the flag,

And whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who allows the protester to burn the flag."

History of the Blue Star Mothers of America, Inc.

On January 22,1942 the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking Mothers of serviceman to return the coupon after filling it out. The following February 1st 300 mothers met in the Durant Hotel, in Flint Michigan. Captain George H. Maines, who had conceived the idea for this group, acted as the chair of this first meeting. It was decided that after receiving 1000 responses from the ad to form a permanent organization.

On February 6th the organization was reported on Congressional record. Chapters then formed in Michigan, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, Pennsylvania, Oregon, California, Iowa and Washington. In June of 1960 the organization was chartered by congress.

Mothers volunteered throughout the tough times of World War II. They worked in hospitals, train stations, packed care packages for soldiers and were an working part of homeland security during times our time of war. The organization waned in size over the years but has held together by mothers showing pride in both their children and country. In recent times we have began to grow in strength. Being attacked on our own soil has once again started mothers hanging flags in their windows at home proclaiming pride in the fact that we have children protecting our freedom during at time of war.

Our organization not only provides support for active duty service personnel, promotes patriotism, assists Veterans organizations, and are available to assist in homeland volunteer efforts to help our country remain strong.

I have copied this information from Kathy, the Friends of Nevada County Military and the Blue Star Mom's link to that web site. If I were not currently unemployed I would be a very proud member. I am planning on checking with Kathy to see more at lunch today. I will do my best to get pictures. My angel blessings to all, Susan

P.S. To my surprise my ex got us a gift for the Commander - IF Lance (the local retruiter comes) I'll pass it to him or is it better that I get it to Bea and you can pass it to him? I have not even thought beyond today about attending any other meet & greets. I'll check it out after our gathering today. Have to go and put up the balloons. ~S

Just in case anyone is questioning - we were invited to walk with the Blue Start Mom's if anyone is not able to, or does not want to participate you do not have to. I am off to a meeting in Reno today.
