Hello everyone, and welcome those of you joining recently. My son is in his 3rd year of Navy service and we talked on Friday. He recently promoted to BM3 (Boatswain's Mate 3rd Class) on his ship, and he's having a fantastic time. He has experienced life and learned lessons that he never would have without the Navy -- a great experience for him. I see there may be other moms of Florida sailors in the group, my sailor is in Mayport, just east of Jacksonville. I haven't made it back to visit him yet, but look forward to doing so, just not sure when. He was headed to Disneyworld with some buddies over the weekend (made an early "Happy Fathers Day" call on Friday just to be safe!).
Hope you're all doing well, I hope to join you at an upcoming meet and greet. I'm in the middle of a move back to a home we've been renting for the last 7 years. We've painted and had new floors installed, now it's time to start moving in...ugh!!! I'm looking forward to the move being done and being settled in. I hope to have time soon to keep more in touch, and see you all.
hey everyone...just joined this group. My son shipped out on 6/5/12. I've gotten the 10 second phone call, the box and the form letter. My son is on Ship02/Division 937. With processing in days complete, I'm hoping for a real letter sometime soon. A phone call would be a slice of heaven but I'm not expecting that for a while. Does anyone here have an SR with a PIR date of 7/27/12? I live in EDH...anyone close?
Jacksonville, Florida
Thank goodness for cell phones....that must have been a scary phone call not to mention a scary few days. Where is your son stationed?
Alibermudez- My son is doing much better. It was pretty scary for a while since the ER doctor misdiagnosed it, and my son did not get the appropriate care for about three days. Then it got much worse. Another ER doctor realized a misdiagnosis, and my son was sent to a civilian hospital. Thankfully, the civilian hospital had a nephrology department so that my son was treated successfully. It was pretty touch and go for about two-three days. The only communication we had was through my son and his cell phone. The Navy did not notifiy us since my son is over 21 years old. I was so thankful for cell phones since my son is stationed thousands of miles away from us. My father was a Lcdr in the Navy and my mom was a Navy nurse, so I put my faith and trust in the Navy docs on this one. I am thankful for the last Navy doc and the corpsman friend of my son who took my son for the third time into the ER and saved my son's life.
Tee-1, I don't know much about this military life either so I am thankful that people like you are willing to share your knowledge...Has the 3 years went by fast? I am so anxious to know what it will be like in 3 years for my son...I hope this is a good step for him!
sorry velvetlace for your son's health issues, that must have been horrifying. I hope he is fully recovered. Sickness and health issues are one of my biggest concerns about my son being away, I am so used to being mommy nurse. lol How was your son treated within the Military care system? Were you kept up to date on what was going on?
Hi, all! I too have been MIA a lot lately. I will get to see my sailor in a little over two months. It has been one year since I will have seen my sailor last. He will have been in the Navy a year and a half when I see him next. I also had mixed emotions when my son enlisted in the Navy. I begged him to finish college first, but he had other plans. There have been ups an downs, but I think it has been and will be a good thing to have served in the Navy for my son. I almost lost him in late April when he acute renal failure. I am hoping that he does not come home in a box. That is my only concern since he is my only child. But, I must look at the positive and realize it was his choice and he will mature because of the experiences. Enough of my soapbox! Mary
Of course he brought home some "ink." oie
To the moms with sailors just leaving for BC or in DEP, after 3 years of ups and downs I can share that joining the Navy has been an experience my son would have never had anywhere else. It's life changing. Of course for some that change can be a "not so good one" but my son has matured and grown in amazing ways. I had no prior experience being a military family and was not so keen on him joining, but it has been good...very, very good.
