Hello Navy Moms! Today was a difficult day and a REALLY special day all at once. I went to the memorial service for PO3 Brian Collins in Truckee today. I was hoping to meet up with NevadaSierra, but that didn't work out. Thankfully, she had described me to one of the other Moms in her Blue Star group and when I arrived where the procession was supposed to start I just introduced myself to them. Kathy recognized me from NevadaSierra's description and welcomed me and made me feel so much like I was part of their group. My husband had dropped me off, so I didn't exactly have a way to get to the service. Kathy and the President of the Blue Star Moms group invited me to ride with the procession with them to where the service was. It was AMAZING to see the outpouring of support from the whole community in Truckee in support of this family. There were so many people lined up along the street all the way there. The ceremony was so special and seeing them present the Gold Star flags struck a chord in my heart. The group introduced me to a few other Moms who were sitting in the bleachers so I didn't have to sit by myself. When the service moved into the gym, I sat behind the same group and they were so supportive. I realized how fortunate I am to be part of the Navy family and the military family in general. It is such an honor. The service was beautiful and just seeing the camaraderie of the other Sailors and hearing the stories was very moving. It was very emotional and even after I came home I was emotionally drained. I've been to a few military memorial services before, but it's very different going to a service for a veteran who has lived a full life compared to one where someone was taken too soon. I'm just so thankful for the caring and support of all the Moms who where there. The main thing I learned from the service was that live is short and that you need to make a difference in people's lives as if it's the last one they have on earth. I again am so thankful for all of you WONDERFUL Navy Moms for being so supportive even though my son hasn't even left yet. It is as an honor to be part of this family. I know my son will be in good hands once he goes in and I know that I will not be alone throughout this journey. Thank you for all you do!

Thanks and I am so sorry. I work as a lay pastor, and it is what it is. I just have to be with you in my prayers.

The ladies from here (Paula, Kathy and Cindy) that I know for sure are going will be doing a presentation to the Mom. Please try to connect with them. They are wonderful ladies, and will be very happy to connect with you.

Please everyone else, hold this special family in your prayers as we bury one of our own in Truckee, CA this day.

NevadaSierra... Sorry to hear you might not make it. I'm still planning on going. I found an appropriate pants suit in Navy Blue in my closet. Do you know if the Blue Star Moms are from Reno or another chapter? I know some of the Moms from the Reno chapter, but I'm not a member just yet. Hope things work out for you to be there still. I was really looking forward to connecting with you.

Hey there - just a reminder of the service tomorrow in Truckee for PO3 Brian Collins. I may not make it Sierrascrpper - work. I'll post in the am how things are going, but at this point in time - it doesn't look good.

Hi Roxanne, welcome to the group.  I live just down the road from you in Auburn, and my Navy mom friend lives in Meadow Vista.  My daughter finished A School in GL in October and is now on the USS Ashland in Sasebo, Japan.  I'd have to agree, boot camp was a tough ride.  I'm glad I can communicate with her for the time being, but know it won't last long.  The ladies on this site are just wonderful, and I'm glad you found us.  Welcome to the next leg of the jouney, and congratulations to you and your new sailor!

Welcome Roxanne! My sailor's a nuke who graduates tomorrow in Ballston Spa, NY. He's then headed home for leave although he won't tell me his schedule so he can surprise me! After leave, he's off to Hawaii for life on a sub which is exactly what he wanted. I don't chime in very often but I'm always lurking. I live in Valley Springs and try to get to the meet and greets.

Roxanne....Welcome to our group.  Guess we are calling roll call.  We are doing fine.  Just got to see our Navy son over the holidays.  Had a great time visiting with all the family and having everyone in one place and under one roof.  So many blessing to be thankful for!

Mine is now deployed.  As LZ say's for the "umpteenth time".
