Most of us have been posting discussions segregated by ship and division, but maybe we can get to know each other based on our PIR date--we will all be in Great Lakes on the same weekend.

hi Laurie, my name is renee, my son Tim 19 is in ship 10 Div 68 but he graduates on Jan 29th. Hope we get a chance to meet. Sounds like from the form letter that the recruit is only available during the day. I don't know. I know I miss my son. Take care.
Hi ladies ...I'm Jodi. My son Corey 19 is in ship 10 div 72. I would love to meet all of you during graduation time ...I think it's a great idea. Laurie ....what division is your son/daughter in??
My son is Ship 10 Div 067. During the Thanksgiving call he told me it was an all male division. Also he said they would not have the opportunity to write letters until this coming Sunday (12/6) so maybe we'll find something in our mailboxes next week!
His A school is in California, so he has someplace pleasant to look forward to after the cold of Great Lakes.
My name is Jill. My son, Jason, will be graduating on 1/29/10. He is assigned to Ship 10, Division 071. I have received 1 letter and the form letter with his graduation date but no phone call yet. I recently lost my Dad to cancer in September and now not having my son home has been so hard. This website has helped to ease my concerns.
This group has helped me so much. If I hadn't known about the "scripted" first call, I would have been concerned about the tone and brevity of that call. I would have found the sudden arrival of "the box" upsetting rather than something to look forward to, and I would have been lurking at my mailbox long before hoping for a letter that I now know can't come for at least another week.

Knowing what to expect has made it all easier.
Hi Jill, My son, Tony is in the same ship and division as Jason.
I am very sorry for the loss of your father and can only imagine that it must be difficult with your son at BC now. However, from what Tony writes and from what I have read at this site, most of the boys seem to be having a very positive experience. Hopefully, you gain some peace knowing that this will be good for him in the long run. We are planning to stay at the Candlewood Suites for PIR. Prices are reasonable and it has an extra room for Tony's girlfiend to stay in. Try and have a Merry Christmas!!! Deb
Hi! My name is Pam and my son's name is Derek. He is on ship 06 and div 910 and graduates also on Jan. 29. I hope that we can meet that weekend.
Hi Pam, my name is Tami and my son Joshua is alson Ship 6 Div 910!! Now I know two people!
Hi Laurie, just got the form letter today. My son's PIR is that day. I have made our reservations for that weekend and plan on attending the family reception at the Ramada the night before. Looking forward to meeting you and others. It's going to be a long 8 weeks, but nothing compared to what our sailors are going through. My son sounded very homesick and I really feel bad for him. But, I know it will get easier as the time goes by. Hope your sailor is doing well. Talk w/ you later.
Hi all, my name is Tammy. My son's name is Keith and he is on ship 10 div 073. I feel better now that I got the form letter and we can write to him. I've already addressed and stamped my first letter and mailing it tomorrow. Reservations are made for grad weekend and looking forward to meeting other sailors families. Let's all keep in touch.
I just saw the update on the Navy site for graduation.

Does anyone know what the 09 in parentheses means?

Still don't have the form letter, but my son's PIR is listed for 12/29/10.
the number in the parentheses is how many divisions are graduating on that day. :-)
