I have received plenty of information regarding who to use to ship a car, and have several quotes.  My biggest issue is figuring out where to ship it to.  I am being told they can not ship it to the base and that I need to ship it to a receiving depot or receiving agent in the area because the car will need to be signed for.  I can't find anyone to receive the car - I have been told by  a number of places  that their liability insurance doesn't allow them to receive the vehicles.    Does any one have any suggestions?

Boy, there is tons of bad information being shoveled out there by people who will say anything to get you to sign what is effectively a very one sided  agency/broker contract granting them the legal right to act as your legal agent in signing a legally binding contract with trucking and storage companies, without your agreement.

They flat out lie and misrepresent themselves as "having their own trucks" and every other lie under the sun to get you to sign an electronic agency contract which is legally binding under federal law.  When in fact they are seeking a contract to act as your legally authorized agent and broker who can agree to price increases and other key terms in your name, and  without your advance knowledge or consent ( your only recourse is to refuse deliver of the car when truck arrives, allow them to keep the car, and sue).  Avoid this by insisting they fax you a paper copy of any contract they want you to sign electronically - and do not enter into a verbal or vague e-mail contract  - they will resist this - but if they refuse that is evidence of fraud.

The good news is that rates are generally cheaper going from west coast to east coast, than east to west.

And no, there is no need to have the car delivered to a depot or receiving agent who charges fees and storage charges.  They can both pickup and deliver anywhere, and most of the base is not inside a gate, so if the trucker wants to avoid a gate there are many places within a short walking distance of the campus ( car repair place behind the dive and mini-exchange for instance right next to the campus )  and I am sure your son has friends with cars as well.

The pick up and drop off can be anywhere.   My son had his picked up on a residential street in the base housing area without any payment in advance and without anyone there to meet the trucker.

The key, apparently,  is having a broker your can trust, and a broker the truckers can trust as well.

I can give you the broker name my son and husband  used, if you want.  He was able to do everything the that many others said was impossible, without a single dollar paid up front to anyone.  It just depends if the broker is trusted by the truckers, or not.

My husband said if he was  doing what you are trying to do he would do things a little differently to save some time and money for both your son and the truck driver,

Private message me if you would like the brokers name.

I am following this thread for future reference.  We will be in the very same position in the future.  NF mom, sounds like you have information that I will need!  :)  We are still in PDays, so won't be dealing with shipping to GC any time soon, however, I hope I will be able to still find you when I need ya!
