B'snukemom, thanks for your guidance.  My brain is gradually returning to normal after sending our son off last week!

How hard is Prototype?  After being on hold, my son's was postponed further due to surgery  because of a training accident.  He will be starting  Prototype Nov. 4th on crutches.   In addition he will be missing class due to physical therapy 3 times a week.  Is it doable that way?  Obviously I am being a nervous Mom.

Congrats to your son William and to yours Dodie.

William, congratulations to your son (and you, too).  His perseverance is truly an inspiration.  Looking forward to hearing more about his journey!

Dodie... HOOYAH and HOOAH to you and your sons!!

I had 2 proud momma moments this past weekend. Our older EM nuke son received his dolphins pin. Unfortunately, Hawaii is just too far to go on a moment's notice. Turns out, we were actually at Fort Benning for our younger Army infantry officer's graduation from Ranger School. I'm so proud of both them for their achievements.

You Moms are the BEST, I once was blind, but now I see.  Thank You.  So many of the things he wasn't telling me make perfect sense now. I did hear about the chewed out and given major hooyahs already, and hiding from the Master Chief, but I guess I didn't understand the structure, and he didn't want me to worry too much.  It's tough to be a supportive cheerleader when you don't know what you're cheering about.  The line about enjoying shorter days and spending his enlistment bonus made me smile.  You're all THE GREATEST, thanks a ton.

Congratulations to your son, William!

First, William, congratulations.  Been following your Sons progress with great interest these last few months.  To get your dolphins while in port is a SUPER accomplishment I thought you could only get your quals done underway.  But then he has always been at the head of his class...add my cheer to the chorus.

Now to my issue.  I finally learned how to contact my MM.  We send care packages with mac & cheese, cup of noodles, coffee, quarters for the laundry, etc..  When he gets the box he texts us and I know he is home and able to talk..  Seems Oral board is not tomorrow, like he said last week, but the 100% test is.  Can anyone give me a quick overview of the final weeks of prototype?  He was sweating it because he was 2 weeks behind on his signatures, then they extended the school by 2 weeks so he got a reprieve, I forgot about the 100%, but he has a lot of stuff to do before the Oral Board.  Just trying to get my arms around what I need to worry about these last 4 weeks. He seems to have it under control, but any tips would be appreciated..

where is he stationed again? which sub?

Comment by William in Nashua on October 21, 2013 at 5:47pm

Thanks for the kind words everyone.

J's mom I am not sure how my son finished the dolphins that quickly since the boat was in drydock almost the entire time he has been on the boat and he was doing a lot of maintenance.   The hours are long. He was nearly finished  with those dolphins qualifications 2 months ago but focused on getting the boat ready for sea instead. But they are  back in the water now and ready for anything and he got the dolphins too so it ended well.  The captain and officers have been very good to him.  It is a brand new submarine and he got to take it apart and learn how it ticks and then put it back together good opportunities for a 2nd class he learned a lot -- I have no idea what he learned though Lol.  He does seem anxious to get underway one of these days though all his friends have gone out and back by now.
