here's a link to a great post on this subject.  If you haven't before check the section above under the heading 'A School' are links to three blogs by one of the original site member's son.  The young man is an exceptional writer, and it's easy to picture him succeeding (which he did, somewhat spectacularly, apparently).  You have to copy the text of the link onto your address bar for the blog posts; you may click on the link below to take you straight to the post covering prototype.

So what can your gals with sailors in PT impart on us that have sailors about to finish Power school. What do they do there? I know that they have to run a power plant. Do they still have formal classes?

My son is also in BS but started back in Nov and now is on hold due to MARF being down. He still has shifts but they either are studying during that time or talking and coming up with word games to play! He's bored out of his mind but there is hope it will be back up operating in July. He has all his qualifications done except for his watches that involve the reactor. He was supposed to graduate in May, hoping now for Sept.

Nice to hear from some more moms in BS!  And everyone in different stages too....

MOMofDREW - good luck to your son with his 100% exam - boy that is next week!  Does he have orders yet?

Patti - so glad yours is loving Japan - I told you that everyone I have heard that goes to Japan seems to love it.  You definitely will have to take a trip there ;-)  I don't know if I would try the pancakes though (and I love sushi!).  Something about seafood in a pancake just doesn't sound right LOL.

Susie - it will be interesting to see when they actually start class.....my son was pretty bored waiting for proto to start.  They spent a lot of days at the site sitting around and then of course cleaning!  He said it made for long days......

hello all!!

beth--my son said the same thing about not going nuke if he knew what school was like. he made it through though. it is hard to hear them say those things, but as patti said, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I prayed a lot for my son. God knows what is best for them be it a nuke or not. we are proud of them no matter what!

B'sNukeMom - my son is in Ballston Spa. He graduated PS on 04/11 and is an ET. There was a group from that class that went to BS. He is on pre-fill for MARF and that means he is on shifts. Problem being there isn't a lot for them to do. It's a tough time as they are used to being so busy. Best guess for class-up is end of July or beginning of August. Hurry up and wait!

When my son finished PS in December there was a fairly good sized group that went to BS.  I know a few of the mom's that are there....but I know there has to be many more! My son finished PS in December and started proto on 4/14/14.  I think it got delayed one time before he actually started.  Then when he went on "on-crew" that was extended by 1 week.....to 6/9.

I thought I had heard when the cheating scandal hit GC that it was causing the hold times for proto to be extended quite a bit.  It's good to hear that that doesn't seem to be the case.....and I think maybe more are staying in GC now since BS has been having issues with MARF.

beth - I hope your son can get some extra help to get him through....hopefully he has a good checkout buddy and they can help each other out.

Christy, you just never know. We also expected a long grad hold, and it was no time at all, a week or two at most.
