Hi everyone, I'm new to the group. My husband just completed bootcamp and will be flying to GC Wednesday in the early morning. I already read few of the discussions and have an idea of what is going on lol. My only question would be about Thanksgiving. Since they only have 75 miles to travel, would it be possible for me to travel up there or just wait until I get my go-ahead for moving? Any advice would be appreciated =)

Thanks to all veterans and current military for the sacrifice and service to our country. May we NEVER take our freedom for granted.

Hello! I am getting ready to move to the area and was wondering if anyone knew the name of a good pediatrician... Specifically for babies. Also, can anyone give me an idea of the medical staff at JBC, are they good? Where do you and your family go?

Both myself and my baby have need of special care, I am type 1 diabetic and he has some issues with his kidneys, so it is important that I establish our family right away.

Thanks. <3

Decent neighborhoods here are : if you can live on base. Single sailors can rent the houses and get roommates on base. The areas around here are horrible to live in unless you have mega bucks or a ton of roomies. Hanahan is affordable and nice to live. Goose Creek is cheap to live for the area but the places here are not nice unless you go out by Dorchester rd. Which is a hike, same applies to Summerville and the traffic is hellacious onto the base in the am and afternoon. So it really helps to be close by. I hope some of this info helps as far as the people asking about the area.

Can anyone tell me what first happens when you get to Nuke Shchool? My Fiance graduates bootcamp next weekend and then flies out to Charleston that next Wednesday. What will he be doing when he first gets there? And when will he be able to get some of his stuff shipped to him because it will be coming from home which is Michigan and they don't let him have anything while he's still under "bootcamp" rules? Any answers will help. Thanks so much!

What airlines flies in and out of Charleston? Our son will be flying home to the Detroit area for Christmas as far as we know and I am not sure which airlines to check into. Thanks!

Any opinions out there on pediatric primary care providers at NWSC?

I'd like to pick one that it more health promotion, than intervention based, or at least won't think I'm crazy for being naturally minded. Any thoughts?

I'll just repeat what TN Navy mom said. I've spoken to my son about Spice several times now (thank you, N4M!), and he said they've been spoken to about it "about a million times" and he has no interest in it at all. And I don't think he's just telling me what I want to hear. He sure doesn't want to mess anything up.

That's good to know. The kid I work with said a lot of people smoke it down there and someone turned him in and that was that. I'm glad that they make it well known to stay away from it.
