If you do the DITY move, would my husband be given time to come back and help me move? We will be moving from Virginia to Goose Greek, SC, so it's not a horribly long trip. I've seen some people say that their husband's have been able to come back and help, so I didn't know if that is always the case or it depends on certain things. His PIR is 10/8, I can't cait!

adams wife... I HIGHLY recommend doing the DITY move.... i just moved from california to goose creek in July and let me tell you it was a pain doing the navy move... no one knows anything it took a month for our stuff to get here (and with a baby turned out to be even more of a pain) just my opinion is all....

Adams Wife - my sailor and DIL did a DITY move too. I contacted Allied VanLines and they handled the moving part. That way, they could go together in the car with the dog. The Navy limits the number of miles and/or hours the sailor can drive so they swapped up on the driving. I met the movers to oversee the loading. They carried the must haves in the car and slept on an air mattress. Arrived GC around midnight on Saturday and the furniture got there on Tuesday morning. The movers placed everything in the rooms and were out of there by 10:00 AM. Check out the PCSing/Moving group. Lots of tips for moves. Good luck!

TN Navy mom- thank you. we will be moving from the completely opposite side of the country and i think we estimated that my husband willl get 10 days to get back, but i know he'll find out for sure once he gets there.

jamielyn- my husband's PIR is 9/24. we will also be relocating to goose creek, by what i'm being told, the beginning of October. we are doing a DITY (do it yourself) move so my husband will be able to come home and help the kids and myself move.

Hi all! My husband's PIR is on 10/8 and we will be moving to Charleston/Goose Creek area for his Nuke schooling. I'm getting really excited, just have no idea what to expect. Do they always get to come back and help you move? Do you know about how long after he gets down there I should be able to move? It's sounding like about a week from what others are saying, which would be great! Does the Navy help you move or do you need to do it yourself? Sorry for all the questions, any advice would be much appreciated!

Adams Wife - my son got to GC on a Wednesday and flew home the following Wednesday to get my DIL. They had to leave our house on Saturday so he could report back in on Sunday AM. GC is a 10 hour drive from our house. The number of days allowed to move varies by distance from GC.
