txnukemom-yes, unless he applies for housing through balfour beatty (to live with other single sailors in a shared house on base)..keep in mind, he still has to move out of his BEQs..the housing area isn't by the school where he's living now. i'm pretty sure they would take all his BAH though (like they do with married couples). Most single sailors just find an apartment off base. I don't know of any personally who choose to stay on base. If he's graduating from power school soon, make sure he's on the lookout for a place to live. they usually make them move within a few days of graduating.

Hello everybody! Just a reaffirmation on something. Does my son HAVE to find off base housing after Power school?

Did not help much calling the airlines, he would like to come home on a weekend in a couple of weeks, military was already booked. But did find out Southwest will be flying in and out of charleston within a year and will be giving military discounts, sounds like good prices also. I have been going through Bing, Priceline, etc. They all gave me a start and then I called the airlines. I have a flight for him, just need to wait for my son to call and confirm the price & times are ok with him. Thanks

if you call the airline and ask for a military discount, they might be able to help you out. That's what i did.
and i personally like www.bing.com/travel
to find the lowest price. it combines all search engines.

Hello

My son is currently in Nuke school in Charleston and he'd like to come home for a weekend. Which flights are the least expensive? Advice please. We neeed them with a cancel policy just in case. And do any give military discounts?

Thanks

yes it does, thank you! I'm moving out to live with him in a year and he should be on grad track or close but I'm trying to figure out if I'll be living on my own or with him during this time.

Hey! We are moving in today on Webster street! Looking forward to meeting you all! Will be there probably around 1730 if anyone is available to lend a hand! :) Thanks!

It is my understanding that single sailors are living in the BEQ during A school, T-track and power school, then they have to move out.I think it is called grad hold on the wait between power and prototype and I think the singles need to be out of the BEQ during this time. Married sailors live in housing on or off base from the beginning. I hope that helps Amanda

When sailors are on grad track waiting to get into prototype, are they living in off-base apartments? and how soon do they move after graduating power school?
Comment by Kathy on June 17, 2010 at 7:00pm
cheryl--pretty much immediately (w/in a few days or less) after they graduate from power school, they need to move out of their BEQs...most single sailors find friends and get apartments off base..however, they CAN live on base in single sailor housing..it's just not in the same area the BEQs are in.

Victoria--I talked to my husband about your hubby's concern and he said the only reason he could think of of your hubby not being able to join is if you guys were having "severe" financial problems (it usually takes a while for the BAH and the first paycheck to come in and they want to make sure the family is supported in the meantime) other than that, i've never heard of the military not letting people join bc of the # of kids. lots of wives here have 1, 2, or 3 kids prior to their husbands joining!
