Cheryl, no problem, I would be happy to come to London to meet you! haha Well, maybe someday we will meet! I am so glad that you got to come over to see your daughter graduate. That is very special! How long have you lived in London?

Cheryl, thanks! I thought that most of the guys in my son's division had already made calls regarding security but my husband kept saying that he would need security clearance for Nuke so I was a little confused. You and Darla have definitely put my mind at ease a little. I am not real sure what my son's first choice was because he never mentioned it to me. I read that they don't necessarily give you your first choice it is more about what the Navy needs at the time. Good luck to your daughter. My son will be close behind her and maybe we will meet sometime!

Darla, thanks for all the great information! I love this site so far. It has definitely filled in a lot of those "gray" areas that I was so confused about. My son is in his 3rd week so maybe we will hear in his next letter what job he will have in A school. Again, thanks!

TxNukeMom and Cheryl, thanks for the info. I knew I had not gotten any calls for more information so I didn't know if I should be worried. Cheryl, my son graduates BC on 7/23. I have not gotten a call from him yet so I don't know if he will be an MM, EM or ET. Does your daughter know yet? Do you know when they tell them in BC what they will be doing in Nukes? I am sorry, so many questions...

Hi Parkersmom,
My son PIR'd 05/27 and although some sons had to call home for info, he did not.

Cheryl, we went ahead and spent the night at the cheap Motel 6 a few blocks from O'hare, just to be close for when he called, and my son called at 4 AM to let us know he was leaving BC for the airport. We met him there and dropped off his things. Took us 7 minutes from hotel to where he was at the United terminal. Although he was in a big hurry when he called, he said the USO provided free food and blankets and pillows and he could relax once they got all checked in. He was in heaven there after being in bootcamp! The traffic was horrible with taxi cabs, etc. so I just dropped off his sibling at the terminal and parked while he ran in to give him his laptop, cell and ipod and some cash. I believe they ended up leaving around 8 or 9 that morning, and landed in Charleston around 1??? Just a reminder-the reason we stayed at the motel 6 instead of any of the nicer hotels there was because we had stayed at the ramada inn from wednesday through sunday in waukegan (he PIR'd memorial day weekend, so had off four days) and I wanted something just to sleep at and CHEAP! It was a dump~

Hello everyone! I just joined this site and I need some "expert" help! My son is at BC and will graduate in July and will head to GC. I have heard several mothers (on other sites) mention that their son had to go through heavy security clearance for their job and they have gotten phone calls from BC with questions. Do you guys remember if your Nukes had to do this in BC? I was just wondering what to expect so I can have the information ready. Thank you!!

Victoria--people in the military have babies ALL the time..so I doubt it's an issue. if you guys are really concerned, you should talk to the recruiter (you should anyway)..if you are expecting, don't hide it, regardless of whether or not you think you'll be in trouble. it's better they know now before he goes in rather than later..the only hassle you might have to deal with is paperwork. I don't think you can add the baby as a dependent until after he/she is born, so it shouldn't affect anything.
