As far as the single sailors moving off base for prototype - my son stayed in GC for prototype. He and each of his three roommates recieved $1,700. for moving expenses/deposits when he moved out of their petty officer suites on base to their rental house. This was in June 2009. He is now home on leave after graduating prototype - getting ready to head to Groton. I have not asked him if he gets any money for this move. He only brought his clothes, TV and computer home. They had a typical bachelors pad - although I had bought some Corelle dishes and a cheap set of pans from IKEA and the other parents had bought stuff to get them set up. I think they just donated every thing to goodwill. I told him to give it to the thrift store on base (but he didn't listen!!). They had several decent chairs and a really nice couch we bought at a yard sale while we were there. Anyway, everything he owns was packed in his Trailblazer when he came home. I guess most of it will stay here as he will be in barracks when he gets to Groton. .

Single sailors live on base. Two to a room in A school, one to a room in power school (or when a single becomes available). When they get to prototype they have to move off base, on their own or with other sailors sharing an apt or house. At that time furniture etc. will most likely be needed but have never heard of getting any money from the Navy to move their belongings at that time.
