For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

**UPDATE 4/26/2022** Effective with the May 6, 2022 PIR 4 guests will be allowed. Still must be fully vaccinated to attend.
**UPDATE as of 11/10/2022 PIR vaccination is no longer required.
**UPDATE 7/29/2021** You now must be fully vaccinated in order to attend PIR:
In light of observed changes and impact of the Coronavirus Delta Variant and out of an abundance of caution for our recruits, Sailors, staff, and guests, Recruit Training Command is restricting Pass-in-Review (recruit graduation) to ONLY fully immunized guests (14-days post final COVID vaccination dose).

Hi, my son will be leaving for SC after PIR. Do they always leave out of the same airport? If so, which one? I'm trying to figure out flights and would like to see him off.

Eric's Mom, the school, NNPTC, is part of Joint Base Charleston, but it is located in Goose Creek, northeast of Charleston. AFAIK, no part of Joint Base Charleston is actually in Charleston. It takes about a half hour to get to NNPTC from either the Charleston airport or downtown Charleston. Plus traffic, of course.

Eric's Mom, Charleston is correct, also Goose Creek. Joint Base Charleston is actually located in Goose Creek. Is in North Charleston.

Thank you, I'm hoping I have the correct group. After PIR on the 27th my son goes to "A" school for NUKE in SC. That would be in Charleston am I correct? I here other NUKE moms talk about Goose Creek?? I'm really confused.

MomThatLovesHerSon, My son is checking out of DTP in the morning to go to his new rating (Master-at-Arms). While he was disappointed that he didn't make it through, it was a relief to finally be able to relax and be less stressed (academically). Just tell him to keep his chin up. My son said that the first 2 weeks of being phase 1 again was a pain.
Their rooms are really far away from the mess hall and really, everything. There are duty vans that pick them up to take them to the mess hall, and he'll find some people there that have been there long enough to be able to drive and they will help him get around. By the way, phone and wifi reception is TERRIBLE in DTP, so don't be stressed out if you don't hear from him immediately.
He will be given a book of all of the different jobs and he'll be able to make a "dream list" of his top 5 jobs that he wants to going forward. It's not always possible for them to get any of the jobs on their list, but I think the Navy tries to give them something on the list. My son got the job he listed as his #5 choice, which was fine with him. There's a lot to choose from.
I think my son was only in DTP for about 6 weeks though. Some stay longer, a few stay for a shorter amount of time...I think it depends on what there new job is and when a spot is available in a new class. He will stay at DTP until he has just enough time to travel to the new class and get checked in.
I hope this helps take a little of the anxiety out of not knowing what comes next. I've heard that our kids are very well respected throughout the Navy for even attempting to get through the Nuke program. You son should be proud of himself for even being invited into the nuclear program, not to mention how far in the program he was able to get to.
